Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Cervantes.
Hi Jade, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started raving about 4 years ago. I never believed in hearing protection because I never wore it to any other music events. I grew up in the punk rock scene so earplugs were a no go!
Then I went to a very loud music event, it was so loud I had to leave because none of my friends had earplugs and they weren’t easily accessible.
This led me to start A Touch of Jade! It started out as making “Hearrings” for my friends for shows. Then everyone was asking if I had a website or necklaces for those who didn’t have their ears pierced. So long story short my fun thing turned into a business because there was such a demand for something like this in the music space.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a rollercoaster for sure! At the beginning I thought I was going to be a millionaire and got a little ahead of myself. About a year in I took some much needed time to work on myself so my business could flourish. It’s definitely about who you know, and not what you know! I have to remember that I’m still a pretty new business (a little over 2 years old) and to not beat myself for not being more successful. I struggle with adhd so the business side of things can be hard. I am an artist through and through and once I get paid for my art it isn’t as fun to make anymore. So I have to find ways to keep myself motivated and on track.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do everything! I wear all the hats in my business. I make Earrings & Necklaces with Earplugs attached. Making hearing protection functional and fashionable! They also are great for sleeping, swimming, studying, construction, music events and so much more. I’m most proud of vending at Coachella! That was a dream come true, and a fever dream to be honest. Still can’t believe it happened. I think what sets me apart from others is my quirky and funky style. I also love to make custom earrings and love getting to know my customers on a much deeper level. For me it’s not about the money but about enjoying the dance floor safely and as long as possible!
