Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Purinton.
Hi Jaime, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is rooted in overcoming a traumatic event and finding gratitude for it every day. A story of jumping feet first off a cliff to do what I love and finding a welcoming community at the bottom with arms wide open to soften the landing. My story is one that is always changing and always beautiful.
On June 4th, 2014 while celebrating my birthday, the universe decided to change my life forever. While hiking with my husband, Tony, on a trail we have hiked a hundred times before I lost my balance and in a split second shattered all three bones and dislocated my right ankle. We had no idea how much our life was about to change while lying in the dirt waiting for help to arrive..
When you are unable to do the things you love and are forced to be still and really think about your life and what is most important, your perspective changes. After two surgeries, a prognosis of a year of recovery, and an uncertain outcome, the thought of not being able to hike again was a real fear that crossed both of our Tony minds daily. We realized then how much hiking meant to us and even though this was the most difficult obstacle we had ever needed to overcome, we knew that the universe in its tricky little way had created an opportunity for us through this misadventure.
While I was in recovery, Hike It Off was born. I was determined to bring this dream to life. Now we live, breathe, eat, and sleep Hike It Off. It is our dream, our medicine, and our future. We are so honored to be able to share it with hikers that are just like us. Hikers who live to hike it off!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say our road was necessarily smooth- maybe more like super windy.
Hike It Off was founded as just a tee shirt company. We really just wanted to create something hikers could wear in and off the trail to express their love for hiking. As with many businesses that road wasn’t so straight and the many curves brought us other opportunities.
Since then, we have expanded the clothing line, added a magazine, and offer in-person events such as day retreats that include hiking and other experiences like mediation and sound healing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our mission is to share the good vibe and healing energy of hiking and inspire deep-rooted connections to the outdoors. It’s in everything we do. Hiking in nature is healing for so many people and it is our goal to get people outside and experience that first hand.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
For us, the most important quality is to be authentic. What you see if who we are. We really don’t know how to be anyone else. We share our highs and lows and are not afraid to be us. We have built an amazing community of hikers that also feel free to express who they are and it is so beautiful to witness.
