Daily Inspiration: Meet Jake & Ria Bermudez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake & Ria Bermudez.

Hi Jake & Ria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Back in 2014, we started buying camera gear to record our life’s adventures after getting married. We found the joy and intricacy of being creative around a camera. We started realizing we could do much more than just record ourselves and started creating fun business adventures. First, we shot a Kickstarter commercial for a chapstick we tried creating called, Balmer. While it failed, it was the start of our videography journey. Years later, we got in touch with a high school friend who put music out on IG that caught out ears. We asked if we could collaborate and shoot a free video for one of his songs. So, in 2018, we started shooting music videos and small gigs here and there for the experience and to tap into our creative side. We talked about transitioning from music videos to weddings for about a year. We prepped all details we possibly could before dropping our promo wedding video we shot of ourselves to help launch our wedding services. In June 2021, we transitioned to the wedding industry doing videography for one of our close friend’s weddings. We love witnessing love, so capturing love together was the best date night away from our kid. After our first wedding, we talked in bed about the rush of pressure, adrenaline, and overall loving atmosphere that wedding we shot was. We wanted to be all in, so a couple months later we added wedding photography which made us a wedding videography/photography husband and wife duo. We wanted to offer brides and grooms the opportunity to look at one place for all their needs regarding capturing moments of the big day. We are 1 year in and have shot a total of eight weddings all while figuring out how to be first-time parents, buying our first home, and continuing our full-time careers. We are proud of how far we’ve come and excited for how much we are continuing to grow.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everything in life is relative to each person’s perspective. For the most part, we have been very blessed with how things ended up. With that being said it was a journey getting to the place we are now. We got married at 20 years old, moved in with each other, and were trying to get through college while working a job. To say the least, we were grinding our butts off. After getting into our careers, we finally were able to explore our creative sides. We tried so many business adventures and had so many discussions of different things we could do. We attempted them all but moved on to the next idea. Photography and videography were always incorporated in our entrepreneurial ideas but once we realized we wanted to attempt turning it into a business, we were nervous. We worried about the fun being taken out of it. As a husband-and-wife photography/videography company we had to find the balance between work and relationship. We clashed on some things and had a some few heated discussions out of passion. We had to get on the same page and that didn’t happen right away. We had to learn through the obstacles that we faced while shooting. The biggest one was figuring out our strengths. We sat down and wrote each other’s strengths and weaknesses while putting our pride and ego aside. After acknowledging what was said we were able to play to our strengths and it seriously took our business to new heights. We each have our own part in this business and we allow it to take a life of its own.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a husband-and-wife photography/videography company. We are hopeless romantics who believe in pure love. We try incorporating modern vintage aesthetics in our work. There’s so many memories in life and as we get older our brains can’t recollect them all. We love giving our couples a piece of their love story that oozes romance, friendship, and tasteful steamy passion through video and photo. Something they can look back on that reminds them of why they choose each other every day. We wouldn’t say anything in particular sets us apart besides the people we are. There’s a certain energy and love we bring to the creative floor that allows our couples to transport into their own romance novel. We are most proud of the growth we continue to have. We are still so passionate about each other and witnessing other people’s love stories. We are learning, adapting, and balancing it all. We know our limits which allow us to give affordable quality work to our clients within reasonable time.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
In anything in life, there is a sense of relationship involved. Whether it’s your partner, your job, your friends, etc. We would say open, honest, and humble communication is the most important lesson, especially working with your spouse. We would also say balance goes hand in hand with communication. Knowing how to balance how many gigs we take on is so very important to us because we never want to burn ourselves out. We don’t want our business to overrule our marriage, our home life, or ourselves. We had to learn when to rest when to hustle, when to talk business and when to stop having every conversation be about business. We are still learning and practicing these lessons and hope to always come out on top.
