Daily Inspiration: Meet Jay Shells

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Shells.

Hi Jay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hdqtrs is an accessory pin brand founded in Queens, New York 2017. We design pins based on our day-to-day interest and culture. Our pins are motivated and inspired by pop culture, music, art, fashion, sports, activism, and education of past, present, and future generations. We strive to influence, shape, and engage with the ever-evolving culture and community of the creative lifestyle.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, not at all lol, some of the many struggles were learning as I went. Learning to do everything that has to do with opening and operating a business. Learning accounting, marketing, advertising, product shooting, web design, SEO, CRO and so much more. I will say it has been a rewarding and amazing experience with all the people that have assisted along the way and I have met. MAINLY HDQTRS TALENTED ART DIRECTOR : PARTNER AND : GREAT FRIEND RAUL SIGALA.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am 1 of 2 parts of Hdqtrs NYC (creative director). I specialize in almost everything that has to do with Hdqtrs NYC from flying back to NYC from San Diego to work shifts at the New York Flagship store to cleaning the floors and everything in between. I am most proud of being able to put together an amazing team from San Diego all the way to NYC of like-minded creatives RAUL, ART DIRECTOR / ISSA RAE, NYC STORE MANAGER / and LUIS CASTRO, GRAPHIC DESIGNER that put forward such an amazing effort to keep Hdqtrs NYC being as great as it is.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid has taught me many things but as far as business it has taught me to assess situations such as covid way deeper. Plan ahead and always stay creative. Be sure to stay adaptable and ready to pivot when required, things can change drastically.
