Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylynn Bird.
Hi Jaylynn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started JayBird Photography back in 2018, fresh out of earning my bachelor’s in photographic arts. At first, it was just me saying “yes” to almost everything—weddings, portraits, events—learning the ropes while figuring out my style. Over time, I realized I thrived working with couples who were a little offbeat, deeply in love, and totally themselves, so I leaned into that vibe.
Fast forward a few years, I expanded into travel work, boudoir, and even video, all while building a client base that comes back to me for every big milestone—engagement, wedding, family. I’ve also opened an in-home studio in Owasso, which gives me a creative playground year-round.
Now, between photographing weddings across the country, running seasonal studio setups, and growing my passive income projects, I’ve built a business that’s both personal and versatile—rooted in connection, but never stuck in one lane.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the biggest struggles have been:
• Finding my lane early on – At first, I took any work that came my way, which meant burnout and not always attracting the clients who truly fit my style.
• Wearing all the hats – Marketing, editing, shooting, admin… running a photography business solo means juggling a lot, and I’ve definitely had seasons where I felt stretched too thin.
• Seasonal income swings – Weddings and certain sessions are busy at specific times of year, so learning to manage the quiet seasons financially and creatively took some adjustment.
• Balancing creativity with business – There’s a constant push and pull between making art I love and making sure it sells.
• Travel & personal life balance – Expanding into destination work is amazing, but it’s also time-consuming and sometimes hard on relationships.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I photograph love stories, but not the cookie-cutter kind. JayBird Photography is rooted in capturing connections that feel raw, real, and a little bit offbeat—whether that’s a witchy fall wedding, a windswept beach elopement, or a quiet in-home session. I specialize in weddings, elopements, and boudoir, and I’m known for blending intimacy with a documentary style that lets the day unfold naturally while still delivering those frame-worthy, cinematic moments.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients—many come back year after year, trusting me with every milestone, from “yes” to “I do” to their growing families. It’s not just about the photos, it’s about the trust, comfort, and genuine connection that makes people forget there’s even a camera between us.
What sets me apart is the way I balance artistry with authenticity. I’m not here to stage every moment or make you fit into a trend—I’m here to notice the way your partner looks at you when you aren’t paying attention, or the way your hands naturally find each other. My clients say working with me feels like having a friend along for the ride—someone who gets them, celebrates them, and tells their story in a way that actually feels like them.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people know me as the girl behind the camera, but what surprises them is how much of my inspiration comes from outside photography. I grew up surrounded by art and storytelling, and I pull just as much from music, travel, and even little everyday rituals as I do from other photographers.
Another thing people don’t expect? I’m not a “behind the lens only” person—I’ve got a bachelor’s in photographic arts, but I’ve also done video, branding work, and built multiple creative side businesses, including an Etsy shop and an Airbnb. My brand might look effortless on the outside, but it’s fueled by a mix of curiosity, adaptability, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes experimentation that never makes it to Instagram.
