Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayst.
Hi Jaysta, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Wassup Y’all I’m Jaysta Got started rapping at 10 and producing at 12. Music is second nature to me I have always been passionate about it and that led me to pursue a career in music.
I’m from Spring Valley and the area has had a huge influence in my life. It’s a melting pot of different cultures and lots of families from other parts of town populated the area when I grew and that caters to my universal appeal within town and beyond. There were lots of rappers around town that push the San Diego rap culture and I’ve cyphered and competed against a great deal of them and applaud how Musical people around town are. Whether it be my past neighbors across the street teaching me piano and guitar, or their son playing in the San Diego Symphony, battles and ciphers at the park, my school choir, even in my great-grandmother’s makeshift church playing the keyboard or messing around with the mic. The family get-togethers at my house when my aunts/uncles would come by we’d play songs all night while they partied and they would occasionally say to me “come spit us a Lil rap”. Even my best friends growing up were rappers/producers or their big brother was or somebody. Without fail, there was always an outlet for music.
I have multiple projects starting with Macks-a-million the mixtape in 2012 and more recently Sprung Valley (executive produced by Mike Berry) 2016. I’ve released 5 singles in the last couple years and I’m finishing up my next project called “KING OF CHILL ” ep part 1
Coming out this summer. Over the years starting from absolutely nothing I’ve overcome obstacles in quality, Production, and Artistry. I’ve always been praised as having an extraordinary potential but I think that’s finally coming to fruition. With my new music and website (JaystaMusic.com) and more exclusive content in the works, I can say things are looking up. My associated acts are very talented in their own right and help motivate and push me to higher heights and I appreciate them. Today I’m a complete artist and you can tap in with me and stay updated on my journey. Enjoy the music! It’s fire!!! If you know good music you know. If you don’t check out my catalog and you’ll find out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a learning experience I’ve literally built my studio one item at a time with no engineering experience.
Then I sharpened up engineering and the mixing and mastering. Also, mic presence in and out the booth.
Monetary obstacles for equipment photo/video shoots mastering etc.
Getting people to listen is difficult at times. People need to remain interested and if you can’t immediately and directly take them to your music they may not look.
San Diego rap scene in itself is difficult because the town doesn’t get behind artists and artists don’t support other artists genuinely.
Remaining dedicated I’ve felt down about the state of rap culture and lacking optimism about where I’m headed but if you truly love the Art, you will never quit.
Haters/naysayers people love to tell you bad things and stay quiet about good things or have certain expectations for what they need/want from you but sometimes if someone is bothered by what you’re doing it may be because you’re doing it right or they’ve just been doing it wrong.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I Rap/produce, ghostwrite, collaborate, and executive produce. I specialize in rapping and producing primarily. Not to pat myself on the back but I can rap my ass off!!! Producing is second nature to me I may be younger but I know my music, multiple genres multiple Era’s I just love music and sounds. It’s like an infinite puzzle I’m solving. 95% of my music is produced completely by me. I have a certain sound that can’t be duplicated. I’m known to be a powerhouse rapper/producer/vocalist that’s my bread and butter. What sets me apart from others is I’m ORIGINAL. I’m different with a warming familiarity to what you do hear nowadays. My music is from the soul and I’m not trying be anything I’m not. My lyricism is unmatched truly, clear for you to understand everything. Honest and factual like a comedian that you can’t help but laugh at.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Keep my family close. Don’t take life for granted.
Health is wealth.
Take precautions to keep everyone safe.
