Daily Inspiration: Meet Jessica Woodring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Woodring.

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Woodring Designs Started in 2011 when I rekindled my childhood love for making jewelry. To be honest, I needed a few birthday presents & visited my local bead store where I used to have my birthday parties. Little did I know, my love for creating jewelry would be a familiar home for me.

I quickly began making jewelry again. Some days I would make more than I knew what to do with. I would wear my pieces around town or to work & clients would buy my jewelry right off of me. This is when I knew it could be something more than just a hobby.

Shortly after, I started showcasing Woodring Designs in local art shows, galleries, boutiques, salons & yoga studios; as well as opened my Etsy shop. About 4 years ago family made the move to beautiful San Diego where I have been able to grow through the community. Woodring Designs jewelry is now also shown in San Diego clothing stores, and Pop up Shops all over Southern California.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are definitely challenges in starting your own business because there are so many aspects of it. Designing and making jewelry is something that comes naturally to me. The other parts of running a business took research and time.

Making the time for work is another challenge in itself when there are little kiddos running around the house. I have been fortunate along my journey to connect with other hard-working Mothers who are business owners & artists following their passion. This is what encourages and inspires me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Woodring Designs is a line of high quality handmade jewelry designed & crafted here in San Diego. From start to finish I take time and care with each piece.

Raw, beautiful, intentional. These are a few words that come to mind when creating jewelry. My collection is elegant, simple & I always have comfort in mind when looking for materials.

Most of my pieces are made with silk or silky chain & raw stones; each stone is unique in shape and meaning.

I take pride in all the details: from looking for new materials, to designing a new piece, to completing the overall experience with display and packaging. My hope is that my passion & intention will show through my work.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Quiet. Quiet, is not something I get very often working from home with small children. When I get the opportunity to have some quiet moments that is what I do. For me, this leaves space for my creativity to fire up.

Once my creativity is fired up and I start creating pieces, I love to listen to instrumentals while I design.
