Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Flatt.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Music and Technology are a big part of my life.
2004 was a defining year for me. That year, my church youth group went to the LCMS National Youth Gathering in Orlando, Florida. This trip was not only an extremely spiritual experience for me, but it shaped life-long friendships and created my passion for music. After the youth gathering concluded, my friends and I decided to start a band. That band is why I love music so much. Between practicing, playing shows, and just general goofing off, the memories we made are things that I will cherish the rest of my life.
I studied Music Business for my undergraduate degree at Valparaiso University.. My college years introduced me to inspiring people that further shaped my love for music. In 2010, I moved from the Midwest to Southern California during my last year of school, where I interned for the National Association of Music Merchants’ 2011 Winter NAMM Show. I’ve worked in the HIFI Audio Industry at Audience AV Inc. and lead the Contemporary Praise team at Redeemer by the Sea Church in Carlsbad over the past decade.
Throughout my musical endeavors, I learned the importance of community. It’s awesome to be able to share life experiences with people who resonate with you. You lift each other up and experience your life more fully with these people. The love that I’ve received is what I want to continue to share with others.
I currently play guitar for the band, Los Hollywood. We are releasing new music soon and have been very happy to play shows again after not being able to play during most of 2020.
As a part of my professional journey, I have grown to love all things technology related. I graduated from a Data Science bootcamp in 2019 and am currently learning Web Development. Learning different aspects of Tech help me with Los Hollywood endeavors, working with Best Vibes Village, and even starting my own consulting company, Flatt Consulting Group.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My musical journey has been a lot of fun, but of course with a lot of learning along the way.
My undergraduate degree was difficult, as most of my love for music was from learning music the “rock n roll” way and not via traditional theory, etc. I had the basic concepts down, but a lot I had to catch up on quickly.
Technology has been a similar path. I really enjoy learning and applying the new concepts; however, it has been a very new journey for me and a lot of quick, catch up learning to get up to speed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
