Kassandra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Journey:
I go by Kassandra, but many call me Kass. Born and raised in Ventura County, CA, I ventured into the world of nursing to fulfill my passion for helping others. As a BIPOC Queer woman, I carry a multitude of ambitions and a deep sense of purpose. While pursuing my nursing career, I discovered a love for the aesthetic industry, driven by my fascination with skincare, makeup, and the creation of unique looks.
In 2020, amid the pandemic, I took a leap of faith and moved to San Diego to chase my dreams of living in my dream city and advancing in my career. Initially working as a travel nurse at UCSD, I then delved into the world of medical aesthetics, providing injections and various laser treatments. However, my journey took an unexpected turn as I realized I wanted to be the owner of the art and work I was creating.
This realization prompted me to enroll in graduate school to become a Nurse Practitioner, with the ultimate goal of establishing my own Medical and Wellness practice. In a surprising turn of events in 2022, I became a model for a permanent makeup (PMU) artist, sparking a newfound love for perfectly crafted eyebrows.
Diving into the PMU industry, I uncovered its beautiful medical benefits for patients facing conditions like cancer and alopecia. Motivated by this discovery, I pursued certification, leading to the birth of my business and brand, Kassthetics Studio. Balancing my business, nursing career, and ongoing education as a Nurse Practitioner is challenging but rewarding. I encourage you all to continue learning, working on your personal growth, and manifest your dream life.
Through my journey and space, I hope to inspire others to embrace their passions and create the life they envision.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting here has been challenging and uncomfortable, far from a smooth road. I firmly believe in the saying, “The magic happens outside of your comfort zone.”
Let me share a glimpse of my background with you. I am a first-generation American. My mother was born in Mexico and married my black father. Together, they raised me with a Mexican Catholic upbringing. Shoutout to my mom for paving the way; she emphasized women can conquer all aspects of life with hard work and determination. She showed me women can build careers, pursue education, and become homeowners without relying on others.
Growing up, I felt markedly different and out of place. I am a queer woman who ventured away from her Mexican family and hometown unmarried. My narrative differs from many I grew up around. I was often told I was too emotional and to be “stronger,” but I discovered I am an empath, which is my superpower. I began my journey by taking risks, stepping out of my comfort zone, and leaving behind the familiar confines of my small town. I spent much of my life living in survival mode—anxious, striving to be perfect, and dissociating. In the journey of healing and self-discovery, I have found a space for acceptance, love for where I am, and striving for more out of life.
Some of the struggles I have faced are people-pleasing, lack of boundaries, imposter syndrome, and lack of self-awareness and self-love. Addressing these challenges has been an integral part of my self-growth journey. Confronting limiting beliefs that society and childhood have imposed on us empowers us toward challenges that come our way. It’s a matter of choosing oneself and being selfish in pursuing personal growth. By focusing on growth, I have created space to mold my dream life and let the opinions of others stay irrelevant. I am looking forward to creating more art and content as I embark on this journey of entrepreneurship. Come see me for a service!
