Daily Inspiration: Meet Katelin Fast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelin Fast.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a native San Diegan, there is no place I’d rather be with my husband, 3 kids, and 3 fur babies. I decided to start my company in early 2021 after years of toying with the concept. After getting a degree in interior design, I was fortunate to stay home to raise my kids and then later taught preschool. The shutdown ended up being a time for me to really consider what I wanted and leave the preschool setting. Unsure of what I was doing, I dove in and began building a website and company. Two years later and I have discovered exactly how much work being a solopreneur entails, but I have also come to realize which projects are my sweet spot. As with most home organizers, I will happily handle any space but when I have a closet or pantry to design and install or furniture and decor to shop for, I am in heaven. My job is to make my clients’ lives better and take some of the stress off of their shoulders. After hiring a team member last fall, I am able to handle more projects and add more services to my offerings. As my client list grows, I look forward to seeing my company continue to evolve and help families in the future.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My journey has been exhausting and pushed me to reevaluate what I do well and either get guidance to learn in the areas I am lacking or find someone I can delegate the work to. As an organizer, naturally you can imagine that I like to be in control so choosing what I need to hand off has absolutely been a struggle for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love helping families find peace in their homes and letting go of the chaos. While every project is different, services I offer include assessments, planning, in-person organizing, packing/unpacking, closet design and installation, staging, and interior design. I am extremely proud to offer my clients a variety of closet systems that we are able to install. Unlike most organizers, we are also able to offer interior design services, giving the client a full-service approach.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
While I tend to have plans laid out in advance, Covid-19 has taught me that I need to be flexible and take everything as it comes. Even the most diligent planning can go awry, and learning to adapt is a valuable skill.
