Hi Kayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am delighted to be able to share my story with you! So, my passion for makeup artistry began in middle school when I discovered and started experimenting with makeup, just having fun and letting my creativity flow. When I was in high school, I was highly involved in both visual and performing arts, giving me an understanding and appreciation for color theory and quality stage-appropriate makeup, which led me to pursue makeup artistry as a career outside of high school. Since then, I have worked many years at various makeup counters in San Diego County, making countless makeup applications. I have worked as an individual freelance makeup artist for weddings, other special events, and a photography studio. Makeup artistry not only provides a fulfilling career path but is a great creative outlet that allows me to use my passion to enhance the natural beauty of those I serve.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It absolutely has not been an easy road, especially while also becoming a mother of two and becoming a single mom. Haha! But aside from personal struggles, a big struggle I faced when I first started out as a young and inexperienced makeup artist was learning how to personalize each makeup application to each personality and need of my clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I feel that I have mastered the art of making my client’s skin still look like their own skin, yet naturally enhanced with makeup. My blending technique also captures the attention of many who have seen my work. My ultimate goal is to ensure that each and every client is completely satisfied with each application, and I believe I have succeeded in that endeavor.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Long story very short, I have always been artistically inclined with a sense of humor who always kept my friends and family laughing. 🙂
