Today we’d like to introduce you to Kome Parnell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved photography since I got a hold of my Mother’s Kodak Ekralite 110 and the photos she would take of my brother and me. Cut to my 20’s/30’s it has followed me through my scuba diving adventures into photographing surfers. When I started to think about the type of photographer, I wanted to be I gravitated towards portraits and weddings. Weddings are the start of a new beginning of a shared experience. The joy from everyone witnessing this. I wanted to showcase that. For portraits. I love the connection. For my clients, I’m there to show what they want to project (if that makes sense) We always make it a loose session so I can get to know them and hopefully reveal that in their photos. Luckily, I’ve been doing this for quite some time and have enjoyed myself like crazy.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning, was just trying to find my way because I’m not an overly talkative person. I had to learn to be comfortable in the uncomfortable. I think I’ve gotten better at it over the years.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m proud of the connections I’ve made with my clients. Some have stayed with me through their life’s journeys and growth. That is definitely one of my proudest achievements outside of my children.
How do you define success?
I define it as being happy that I still enjoy approaching each session as an opportunity and not as a job. I love the people I get to work with and get to know, from the Bride and Groom and their people to the CEO who I take their headshots with every year for the last 10 years.
