Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Karhio.
Hi Kristen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in a small town in upstate NY where I had the opportunity to participate in many different sports and activities. I went to college on a track scholarship as a D1 heptathlete (7 events) while I worked towards an art degree. I always considered myself a jack of all trades and enjoyed learning new things. When I graduated, I opened my own gym and played many roles there as an owner and coach. When I retired as a coach, I leaned into my artistic side and worked on branding, design and photography in the sports world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The most challenging thing about running your own business is that there is no blueprint. It’s also the thing I love most about it. It’s a lot of trial and error, creative problem solving and persistence.

I’m a photographer and designer passionate about capturing the energy of women in motion: athletes, musicians, and entrepreneurs. I offer a comprehensive approach to branding, from marketing photos and merchandise design to creative strategy.
One project that is close to my heart is my partnership with Sweat Marketing Lab. We support female college athletes with sports marketing through education, branding and partnerships. As a former college athlete and entrepreneur, I understand the unique challenges and opportunities facing today’s women. I’m proud to be part of a movement that is empowering the next generation.
What does success mean to you?
Success is a feeling measured by progress, not numbers. Empowering athletes, inspiring business owners and giving people the tools to make themselves successful – that’s where I feel I can make the most impact.
