Daily Inspiration: Meet Kristine Baker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Baker.

Hi Kristine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our story started in 2012 when I discovered a need for women to feel included in the booming craft beer atmosphere, and for an opportunity to organize women in numbers to explore breweries without feeling out of place.

Back then, 10 years ago, I noticed that breweries catered their merchandising primarily to men, and because of that void, I started designing a female beer product line. These items are always changing and evolving and can be found on Etsy @womensbeercollective or our website at https://www.womenscraftbeercollective.com/store

We still have meet-ups, but they have now progressed from brewery tours to beer crawls, and outreach opportunities in the community. We will be volunteering with Feeding San Diego on June 6th from 12-2, and there is an RSVP list that still has plenty of room on it. Check out the “events” portion of our website for more details on that fun day!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The last two years were difficult for many people because of the pandemic, but not being able to plan and hold events was definitely missed. I also stopped pouring beer for Culture Brewing Co. in the early days, and now miss the routine and being hands-on. But it has given me more time for the creative end of designing products!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I was taught to sew at a very young age. I believe my parents thought I’d never find clothes to fit when the Doctors predicted I’d be 5’11” tall, so having the ability to make clothing was a great skill. Over the years I use that skill set more for interior design, but also several items in my shop require my sewing them. For instance, our single hop dish towels in green or black, and our hemp market totes.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Now being in the fermentable beverage industry, I can look back with understanding on many memories in our garage as a child. My parents had big tubs of grain that I would grab handfuls of and chew until it made a gum like a wad. Also, big rubber drums filled with apricots that wiggled around in bubbles. I now realize that this was active fermentation, and I can still vividly recall the glorious aroma!
