Today we’d like to introduce you to Leanne Joy.
Hi Leanne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Well, I have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember. My dad always carried a camera around when I was growing up as a kid. I started my hustle during my senior year in high school. My friends and others would ask me to take their senior pictures. So, I started making money from there.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha, no. Photography requires a great deal of consistency and clients that are interested enough to work with you. I have recently moved to a new city, so everything is new. One of the main struggles for me is probably trying to put my work out there and making connections with clients who would be interested in working with me. But I’m proud that I was able to put my foot in the door and actually make something out of my creativity
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I mainly specialize in portrait photography. I love interacting and getting to know people. My main purpose of doing portrait photography is seeing my client’s reactions to their photos. Mostly, people are not used to being in front of a camera, so they get self-conscious and insecure. But after they see their pictures, they gain self-confidence and realize, ‘oh damn, I look good…’ It’s the self-confidence that I want to help them achieve, and it’s rewarding.
What matters most to you? Why?
Self-reflection and awareness in everything we do. I believe these two things help us begin to understand ourselves and how we can grow and become better versions of ourselves.
