Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddy Boyd
Hi Maddy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Maddy Boyd, a Registered Nurse specializing in aesthetic medicine. I’m passionate about providing treatments that help people feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. When someone feels good about their appearance, it can transform their self-image and overall mindset. It’s amazing to see how much the aesthetics industry has evolved, and I’m truly honored to be a part of my patients’ journeys. My path into aesthetics wasn’t something I initially planned, but it’s truly developed into the most rewarding and fulfilling career!
After graduating from Arizona State University during the height of the COVID pandemic, I started my nursing career as a hospital bedside nurse on cardiology and COVID units. This was an extremely challenging experience as a new grad nurse, and I quickly realized I wanted to explore different areas of nursing that would allow me to connect with patients in a more creative and uplifting way.
When I transitioned into aesthetics, I had the opportunity to receive comprehensive training which expedited my expertise in performing a large variety of treatments: including neurotoxins, fillers, microneedling, lasers, PRP, and Sculptra. From the beginning, I fell in love with the blend of artistry and medicine the aesthetics industry allows me to provide.
I’ve now been with SD Botox in Mission Valley for nearly three years, which feels like a full-circle moment since I was once a patient here myself. Joining this team has been one of the best decisions, and I’m so grateful to do what I love every day while continuously growing in my craft.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t exactly been smooth. The aesthetics industry is very different from what’s taught in nursing school. While we get basic anatomy education, there’s no formal training on aesthetic treatments, so if you want to pursue this field, you have to seek that knowledge on your own. Aesthetics also comes with a different type of stress compared to hospital work, especially since patient concerns are elective and more personal. It took a lot of time to establish myself and truly master the skills needed. For a while, I was working 50-60 hour weeks—full-time at the hospital while studying and growing my aesthetic practice.
Eventually, I took the leap and left my stable hospital job, which had limited growth opportunities, to go full-time in the medspa world, where the potential is endless. It wasn’t easy at all, but the support from my loyal patients made the transition smoother. The aesthetics industry is always evolving, and I’m constantly learning about the latest trends, technology, and treatments to offer my patients the best of the best.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an aesthetic nurse injector dedicated to creating natural, undetectable enhancements that bring out the best in your unique features. My expertise lies in facial balancing with dermal fillers and natural lip filler enhancements. My approach is all about subtlety—what I like to call “tweakments.” The goal isn’t to change who you are but to enhance your natural beauty in a way that feels balanced and authentic.
I always tell my patients that you’ll notice the difference, but others won’t be able to pinpoint what’s changed—they’ll just know you look refreshed and more confident. That’s the beauty of my approach: creating undetectable, natural-looking results that enhance, rather than alter, your unique features. Over the past year, this philosophy has resonated with my patients and brought in a wave of attention and referrals, which is something I’m truly very proud of.
Of course, I couldn’t have achieved this without the incredible support of SD Botox and my amazing team. They’ve fostered an environment of collaboration, growth, and constant learning, which has allowed me to perfect my skills and continue delivering amazing results for my patients.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Ooooo! I love this question.
I’m really excited about where the aesthetics industry is headed. With the ongoing rise of social media and more openness around treatments, we’re seeing a shift toward natural, subtle enhancements. More men are also trying treatments, seeking natural, undetectable results. It’s great to see a wider variety of people embracing aesthetics. More people are moving away from simply filling what’s under the skin, but are instead opting for treatments that stimulate collagen and elastin for more sustainable results. There’s also much more talk around the risks and long-term effects of treatments, as well as the research backing them. It’s an exciting time as we move toward smarter, more natural choices in aesthetics.
In the next 5-10 years, I believe regenerative treatments like exosomes and Sculptra will continue to lead the way in promoting skin health and collagen-driven results. Microneedling and laser skin resurfacing are definitely going to keep gaining popularity. Along with these treatments, filler will remain popular, but with a focus on holistic, full-face balancing and subtly. The goal is to enhance the natural structure of the face, creating an undetectable, balanced look rather than going for an over-the-top result. Subtle facial balancing is IN—overdone is definitely OUT!
Another bigger shift is the move toward a multi-modality approach. Instead of focusing on one treatment, patients are realizing the value of combining various procedures—like Botox, lasers, facials, and regenerative treatments—into a cohesive treatment plan. Taking care of your skin health is key to getting the most out of these treatments.
