Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Personius.
Hi Marisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In August of 2025, I quit my job without a clear plan—just a gut feeling that I needed something different, something more creative. I didn’t know exactly where I was headed, but I felt pulled toward photography, so I started experimenting, learning as I went. I knew I wanted to get better at photographing people—especially men—but wasn’t sure how to approach it. That’s when the idea for a personal project sparked: The Artist Showcase. I began photographing artists while they worked, thinking it would be more natural to capture them in their element rather than posed and self-conscious in front of the lens. As I got more immersed in their creative processes, I started interviewing them too, curious about the stories behind their work. And just like that, my blog *Art Convos* was born—a space where I could combine photography, storytelling, and curiosity, all in the name of celebrating creativity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t exactly been smooth—it’s been full of bumps, twists, and moments of uncertainty. The creative side—taking photos, conducting interviews, and weaving stories together—has actually come pretty naturally and brought me a lot of joy. But behind the scenes, it’s been a different story. Building confidence in myself, questioning if I made the right choice, scrambling to pick up side jobs, and figuring out how to support myself while pouring energy into this passion project has been a real challenge. The hardest part has been navigating my own inner world—that’s where the most transformation has happened.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a photographer, interviewer, and storyteller. I spend my time talking with artists, capturing their world, and sharing their stories. The moment I feel most proud is when I get to show someone the final piece—the photos and words together—and I can see that it’s really landed with them. It’s like holding up a mirror and saying, *This is who you are. This is how I see you. This is how the world sees you.* And when I see them moved by that reflection, that’s the moment that makes it all worth it.
What sets me apart is my ability to truly connect with people—to create a space where they feel seen, heard, and safe enough to open up. That connection is where the magic happens, and it’s what allows me to tell their stories with honesty, heart, and depth.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
There are many tools that have helped me in this journey. Again, these are tools mostly for inner work. Someone whose work I’m following really closely right now is Peter Crown, who goes by the title ‘mind architect.’ Listening to his interviews has really helped me navigate my inner world. I highly recommend checking him out.
