Today we’d like to introduce you to Marjory Toledo
Marjory, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Marjory Toledo, the founder and creative force behind Marji Wear, a brand born from passion, heritage, and a deep love for craftsmanship. Growing up in Brazil, I was surrounded by the beauty of handmade artistry—especially crochet. My mother, an incredibly skilled artisan, taught me the delicate yet powerful technique of turning yarn into wearable art. While I don’t crochet myself, I’m the creative face behind their magical hands—a perfect match. What started as a skill passed down through generations became my calling.
Marji Wear isn’t just a swimwear brand; it’s a movement. I wanted to create pieces that embody confidence, elegance, and the uniqueness of handmade design. Each piece is crafted with intention, ensuring that every woman who wears Marji feels empowered, beautiful, and effortlessly bold. Our designs reflect the magic of the ocean, the freedom of self-expression, and the essence of femininity.
Building this brand as an immigrant has been a journey of resilience. When I moved to the U.S., I had to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship while embracing a new culture. But I always believed that Marji Wear could transcend borders—because art, beauty, and confidence are universal. Today, seeing women around the world wearing my designs is proof that passion, dedication, and authenticity always find their way.
At its core, Marji Wear represents more than fashion. It’s a tribute to craftsmanship, to the power of women supporting women, and to the belief that handmade pieces carry stories—stories of strength, tradition, and individuality. And this is just the beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Marji Wear hasn’t been easy. As an immigrant, I had to start from scratch in a new country, learning how to navigate business, marketing, and the ever-changing fashion industry plus the language. One of the biggest challenges was introducing handmade craftsmanship to a market that often favors mass production. People love fast fashion, but I wanted to show them the beauty of slow, intentional design.
Financial limitations were another struggle. In the early days, every investment was a risk, and without a big budget for marketing, I had to find creative ways to get Marji Wear in front of the right audience. There were moments when sales were slow, and doubt crept in, but I refused to give up and still do.
One of the most frustrating obstacles has been dealing with people who don’t understand the value of handmade work. I’ve heard comments like, “I can get the same thing from India for $10.” But the reality is, true craftsmanship takes time, skill, and care—it’s not about mass-producing pieces with cheap labor. Marji Wear represents artistry, ethical production, and a connection to something real. It’s about wearing a piece that carries a story, not just another disposable trend.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the founder and creative force behind Marji Wear, a brand that brings handmade crochet swimwear to the forefront of fashion. I focus on designing, branding, and growing the business while my family, who are skilled artisans, handle the craftsmanship.
Marji Wear specializes in handmade crochet swimwear, blending traditional techniques with modern designs. Each piece is crafted with care, ensuring that women feel confident, beautiful, and unique when wearing our creations.
Marji Wear is known for elevating crochet swimwear into a statement piece, rather than just another bikini. Our brand stands out for its high-quality craftsmanship, ethical production, and designs that embody elegance and empowerment.
I am most proud of turning my vision into a reality—building a brand that honors my family’s artistry while making an impact in the fashion industry. Seeing women around the world wear Marji Wear with confidence is proof that passion and authenticity can break barriers.
Unlike mass-produced swimwear, Marji Wear pieces carry a story, a heritage, and a soul. Our brand merges handmade craftsmanship with modern fashion trends, creating swimwear that is timeless, ethical, and one-of-a-kind. Additionally, my journey as an immigrant entrepreneur has shaped Marji Wear into more than just a brand—it’s a movement celebrating resilience, tradition, and individuality.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Man, I want the moon HAHA
In 10 years, I see Marji Wear as a globally recognized brand, featured in major fashion shows, worn by celebrities, and known for revolutionizing the way people view handmade fashion. I want it to be the go-to name for crochet swimwear and resort wear, showing that craftsmanship and luxury can coexist.
Most importantly, I want to build a legacy—empowering women, creating jobs, and proving that no dream is too big (or too wild). The way I see it, if I shoot for the moon and miss, at least I’ll land in a place where I’ve made an impact, uplifted others, and built something lasting. A place where my vision created opportunities, where the journey meant more than the destination, and where every step helped shape a future I’m proud of.
