Daily Inspiration: Meet Meleah Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meleah Nelson.

Hi Meleah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always loved making people look and feel better about themselves. It has been a journey to where I am today from modeling, dancing, teaching dance and fitness, to fashion styling, to wardrobe consulting, to makeup and hair. I absolutely love what I do!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been an adventurous road. I have had many titles, challenges and rewards. The most challenging was deciding to work for myself. It meant completely being responsible for myself with no help from an employer. It was scary but totally worth it. People tell me how much freedom it must give me to choose my own schedule… in reality, I put in more hours than I ever dreamed of.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My joy is to help people feel better about themselves. It could be the outer appearance or the inner self through movement. Right now, I specialize in hair and makeup for weddings and special events. I love making beautiful brides, and I am known for flawless makeup that emphasizes a person’s own beauty.

I love to create fun updos and graceful waves for hair. I also teach couples to do their first dance. I work with all levels, but most are nervous beginners who insist they can’t dance… I show them they can! I think that makes my service unique; Makeup, Hair, Dance all in one place! When a bride looks in the mirror and says, “I never knew I could look this good,” it makes my day.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I do tend to live my work, but I also love to get outside and work in the dirt. I throw on old clothes, no makeup, and crawl around in my yard weeding and planting. I get grossly dirty and feel great. I recently started a worm farm to produce worm castings which I harvest and use to fertilize the yard. I actually like my little worms!
