Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Schlanbusch
Hi Michele, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi My name is Michele Schlanbusch.. I’m the owner of Boundless Women’s Gym & Pilates in North Park and the founder of the nonprofit, Thriving While Pregnant & Beyond. My journey to getting here began a little over 30 years ago as a freshman in collage.. I discovered fitness and my life was never the same. In choosing wellness, as a career path, I taught group classes at high end spa’s, managed fitness programs on battleships; lead hikes from a variety of commercial cruise ships; provided Thai massage at countless sporting events, and as a personal trainer, I have helps thousands of women make positive lifestyle choices that have enhanced their lives and the lives of their children.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has been full of adventure. Suffered major loss. Survived owning a gym during a pandemic (by God’s Grace). Navigating the gym industry post pandemic is nothing short of a miracle.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As the owner of a Pilates studio and gym, I wear many hats. From owner to manager, I have to make sure that my studio stays relevant in an ever changing fitness/wellness industry. From coordinator to personal trainer, I must always keep my clients best interest at the forefront of every training session and calendar cycle. As a birth doula, I provide uninterrupted emotional support to mom’s and their baby pre-labor and during labor and delivery, no matter how long a labor lasts. As the founder of a nonprofit that helps Black women and their babies survive pregnancy and the postpartum period, I take all the necessary steps to to ensure that my program is sustainable and continues to provide support for many years to come.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how every neighborhood in San Diego is self- sufficient. Everything you need can be found in your neighborhood.
Our infrastructure and transportation needs to keep up with the rate at which our city is growing.
