Daily Inspiration: Meet Michelle Schacherer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Schacherer.

Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was born and raised in Mexico but I’m a dual citizen (Mexican American). And ever since I was a little girl, I had always been a very active person, both physically and mentally. As soon as I graduated from my university in Baja, Mexico with an International Relations degree (Magna cum laude) that had a double major (business and economics), I started working for my uncle at his digital marketing company. While he insisted that I focused on the Mexican market, I believed the world was my oyster. So, I expanded the market to the Imperial Valley County. After a bit, I started my MBA at the same university in Baja (UABC). I then became an exchange student at SDSU where I studied part of my MBA and did an internship to use my marketing skills at a non-profit called Chicano Federation. Once I graduated from my MBA program with a doble major (finance and marketing); I kept offering my services as a marketing consultant and translator (putting my language skills to use. I speak Spanish, English, Italian, and German). After a while, I moved to San Luis Obispo County on the Central Coast where I worked at a local company as a Marketing Manager. But not too late after that the loan officer who had refinanced my old house on the coast invited me to join the real estate industry to exploit my skills in sales, marketing, finance, and languages. That was back in 2018 and I am still a loan officer and translator and marketing consultant as a side hustle. I currently have clients throughout the state and many in the SD area for both mortgages and languages. The beauty of technology has allowed me to live in my dream town, Big Bear Lake, and continue doing my job serving the whole state.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. It was hard for a person who had lived most of her life in a different country, Mexico. Many people were skeptical before hiring me, especially since not too many knew me, but I kept trusting the process and myself. I started collecting “no’s” because I knew that each would take me closer to a “yes.” And being persistent, making progress each day, and doing the work has brought me to where I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My full-time job is Mortgage Loan Officer at Pacific Trust Mortgage in San Luis Obispo. I’ve been at this position for 5 years.

I also, as a side gig, translate and do marketing consultations. I have been doing this since 2015.

Overall, my jobs are somehow all sales related. I’ve been in sales since 2010.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
First of, you have to ask yourself what you want people to know you for. What sets you apart? Once you know this, this is going to be your branding, your ace that no one else has and the one everyone will know you for. Rehearse a small speech, believe in it and in yourself. Then, study your clientele: where do they go? What events do they attend? Where can you find them? Can you give them of value that resonates with your USP. Then go to an event where you know you’ll find your clientele or reach out to them directly and show them why if they choose you, they’ll end up winning; give value and show you truly care but do really care!
