Daily Inspiration: Meet Mikhalia Bird

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikhalia Bird.

Hi Mikhalia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Atlanta Georgia but moved and was raised in the small town of Sleepy Hollow, New York since I was 6 years old. I am the only child of my mother, and she raised me as a single parent. I learned responsibility early, and my mother always encouraged me to dream big. My mom as an immigrant did her best to put a roof over my head, and she was successful. I worked my way through high school and am currently a sophomore attending San Diego State University majoring in Journalism emphasis on Public Relations. A dream of mine is to work for iHeart Radio, Live Nations, or a PR agency in the travel or entertainment industry. I’ve always been a more creative person as I danced and sang starting at the age of 3 and was always into content creation and photography. Starting in high school, I began creating youtube videos but sadly did not continue but I plan to start again once I save for another camera. Being the extrovert I am, I’ve always enjoyed getting to know strangers on a deeper level and putting myself out there. After going through a breakup in October 2022, I began posting more insightful Tik Tok videos that I felt might help others going through similar experiences. After getting a lot of support from strangers and friends, I decided to start brainstorming Podcast names and ideas. Starting in November 2022, I’ve been filming and creating content for my podcast called Eventually, whose name was inspired by Tame Impalla’s Eventually. That song spoke about losing a relationship, but it is the best thing for both parties and that eventually everything will be okay and both people will be happy. That message is a beautiful and important motto I always wanna live by. That no matter how hard things get, there will always be a brighter day tomorrow or eventually. I want to spread my energy and positivity to others, as I know it can get really mental for people younger than me, my age, and older. It’s important to have those tougher conversations that people aren’t always ready to have as they help us grow and evolve.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression since middle school and many times contemplated killing myself. The reason I never did it is that I knew it would break my mother’s heart. What kept me going through High School, specifically junior year during COVID, was the thought of attending college and escaping my small town in which, at times, I was very miserable. I struggled with loneliness, but I’ve learned to embrace being alone as I am my own best friend for the rest of my life. I’m proud of where I’ve come from both mentally and culturally. My mother grew up in poverty. Growing up, I envied people’s big houses, but as I got older, I grew gratitude for all the work my mother puts in daily to provide a better life for myself. She is my biggest inspiration.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a podcast host of Eventually Podcast. Eventually is a podcast discussing numerous topics concerning the society we live in today, pop culture, growth, music, mental health, and the experiences of myself and others. Learning from the world and others, we will grow together learning to be mindful on this journey, hopefully seeing that eventually, everything will work out the way it’s supposed to. I speak a lot about my mistakes, failures, and struggles. I believe that’s what sets me apart as I’m a 20-year-old proudly and openly speaking on things most people feel ashamed or scared to share. I’m fearless because life is short, and I wouldn’t be authentic if I didn’t share what makes me me. I’m most proud of my growth and acceptance in not feeling that shame I used to feel for certain decisions I made growing up. I’m proud of acting on my ambition to create something instead of just talking about it. Creativity should never die, and I want to preach that to all. Creativity is what makes the world go round. Creativity saves lives; it saved mine.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My experiences and my friends and family mean the most to me. I say experiences as 2020, the entire world was cut short of them. After we got out of quarantine, I made it my mission to continue to be present and dream big. I’ve done that by moving across the country for school and going to any concert I could save up as my love of music is what keeps me going every day. My family matters to me, as I want to make them proud by becoming something beautiful and successful in this world. I will graduate from university as one of the first members of my family to attend college. When I’m low, I turn to my closest aunts and mom and dad as they, at times, bring me a comfort that no one or thing can provide. My mother especially is so important to me as I grew up watching her struggle and make sacrifices to give me the things I needed and wanted. The friendships in this life that are real and deep matter to me as I show every side of me to my friends. I love the comfort and support that certain friendships can provide, and I value the friends in my life that have been there for me through it all as I have been for them. I understand that not all friendships last forever, but I still value those moments we share, where we’re laughing till we pee ourselves, where we dedicate their birthdays to making sure they’re the happiest person alive, where friends ask if you need anything when they’re going to the store. I want every day for the rest of my life to mean something and for myself to be present in every moment.
