Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathalie Keene.
Nathalie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey with The Style Nerd began from a genuine fascination with how art, psychology, and self-expression all connect. I’ve always been curious about why certain colors or silhouettes make people light up, not just on the outside but emotionally too. Over time, that curiosity turned into a passion for helping others rediscover their identity through personal style.
My background is in psychology and education, but I’ve always been drawn to creative environments. That blend of analytical and artistic perspectives shaped the foundation for what I do today, helping people understand the emotional and visual harmony between who they are and how they express themselves.
A huge part of my creative influence comes from my family. My grandfather was a beloved tailor in Solana Beach for many years, and my grandmother was a talented seamstress. Growing up around their craft instilled in me a love for fabric, design, and the transformative power of clothing. Their attention to detail and appreciation for the artistry of personal presentation continue to inspire everything I do.
What started as a personal fascination with color and design gradually evolved into something much larger. I began studying advanced color theory, the historical foundations of image consulting, and the relationship between body structure, proportion, and personal identity. From there, I built The Style Nerd as a bridge between the analytical and the artistic, a place where science, psychology, and creativity meet personal transformation.
I developed my own 16-season color analysis system and refined my body analysis method to help clients understand not just what suits them, but why it does. My approach is highly personalized and designed to help people dress with confidence instead of confusion.
My mission has always been to create a supportive, intelligent space where people can fall in love with who they already are and express that beautifully through their style.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most creative journeys, it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Building something unique in an industry that’s constantly evolving takes a lot of persistence and self-trust. When I started The Style Nerd, I was carving out my own space in a field that often relies on traditional systems or fleeting trends. I’ve never been interested in following trends for the sake of them. My approach has always been about helping people discover what feels authentic and timeless for them rather than chasing what’s popular in the moment.
That perspective hasn’t always fit neatly into the conventional mold, and there were moments of uncertainty, especially in the early stages when I was refining my methods and finding my voice. It takes time to build credibility when you’re doing something different, and there’s always a learning curve in balancing creativity with business logistics. But those challenges helped me shape a more authentic and meaningful approach to my work and strengthened my belief in the impact of what I do.
Each challenge has refined my vision and deepened my purpose. I’ve learned that growth often comes from the uncomfortable parts of the process, the times when you have to trust your vision before anyone else fully sees it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I offer in-person and virtual services that help people reconnect with their natural sense of beauty and self-expression through personal style. My work includes color analysis, body analysis, closet edits, and personal shopping, all designed to make getting dressed feel more natural and aligned with who you are.
I specialize in highly individualized color and body analysis using my own 16-season color system and detailed body analysis method. Each session blends science, psychology, and artistry. It’s not about trends or quick fixes, but about helping clients understand the deeper connection between who they are and how they express themselves visually.
What I’m most proud of is seeing the personal growth that happens through this process. Many clients come in searching for clarity with their wardrobe and end up seeing themselves in a completely new way. That shift in how someone views their own reflection is what keeps me inspired.
What sets my approach apart is the balance of analytical and creative insight. I incorporate elements of science and color theory with a deep understanding of personality, proportion, and visual harmony. My goal is not only to help clients discover what flatters them, but also to rebuild their self-confidence and sense of worth through the process. Style can be such a powerful form of self-recognition; it’s about learning to see yourself with compassion and finally feeling at home in your own skin.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve learned that risk often looks different depending on how you define it. For me, risk isn’t always about doing something dramatic or public. It’s about trusting your instincts when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. Starting The Style Nerd was definitely a risk. I was stepping into a field that is often misunderstood, and I knew I wanted to approach it in a way that was more psychological, artistic, and research-based than what most people were used to seeing.
There is a certain vulnerability that comes with creating something original. You are putting your ideas, your perspective, and your heart out into the world without knowing how they will be received. But I think the bigger risk is in not pursuing what feels authentic to you.
I’ve realized that every meaningful step I’ve taken, whether it was developing my own color system, refining my body analysis method, or publicly sharing my philosophy, involved risk. But each time, it has brought me closer to the work I was meant to do. I see risk as the space where creativity starts to take root and where real growth begins.
