Today, we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Ivins.
Hi Nicholas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember and I always knew I wanted to be an artist. It was just a matter of what kind and how I could make a living! I started doing the street fair and art festival circuit in 2011 and haven’t looked back.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I don’t think it ever is for artists. One of the biggest struggles has been finding my unique voice and style. It just takes time and lots of trial and error.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do art of animals in a colorful and comic book-inspired style mixed with a Day of the Dead theme. Dogs and cats are my main subjects.
I’m proud of the reactions I get from people who first encounter my work. I’ve often been told how joyful it is and how it immediately makes people smile. I think few artists can say that their work has such an effect.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’ll have a booth at the San Diego County Fair this summer!
