Today we’d like to introduce you to Quentin Minor.
Hi Quentin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Back in high school, I got really into old-school thrash metal bands. It was right around the time that Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, & Anthrax were doing “The Big 4” shows, and my music teacher for the school’s concert band was a metalhead too. I heard Dave Lombardo’s drumming on “Reign in Blood”, and I knew I wanted to play drums. I was a sax player at the time, but you’d never tell since all my practice time went into the drums. I started Phantom Witch (Then, just Phantom) with another student at the school. It’s been a long road since then, and somewhat of a revolving door of members, but we’ve gotten to a pretty solid group of guys who are all hungry for success.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! It’s had highs and lows, either because of things related to the band or just things in our personal lives. One of my old bandmates is homeless now, another got into a fistfight with me on stage one time, etc.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a musician! I have a background in classical and jazz, but these days I’m all in on Thrash and Death Metal. If I had to say what sets us apart from others, we don’t *try* to be original. We just sit in a room and play what we think people will mosh to. It’s not about being super original or trying to be different for differences’ sake for us, it’s about creating the most violently chaotic music we can.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Just that this band is extremely important for my health & well-being! We actually spent most of that time in the studio, but the lack of playing live really did take a toll on me personally.
