Daily Inspiration: Meet Rita Spiegel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rita Spiegel

Hi Rita, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been painting since I was a kid. So that naturally led to me going to art school at San Diego State.

I paint in many mediums, but mostly watercolor painting. I have a variety of subjects I’ve painted in the past, including landscapes and yoga inspired paintings. But when I started my Instagram account, I also started an Instagram account for my dog.Cocoa Puff.

So I started painting her portrait which got a lot of inspiration and she is a painter too. I’ve even written the book called Becoming a Pawcasso”. It teaches other pet boners how to train their own dog to create their own masterpiece. I’m so so excited and available for sale on Amazon.

That’s pretty much where my pet portrait aspect of my career bloomed. People found me from Cocoa’s account and wondered portraits of their own dog. Even groups that got together after a dog had passed would commission me for a memorial portrait

I basically feel the love and spirit of each dog I paint and that is how my art enveloped

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For painting the road has been smooth. But when it comes to marketing and sales that has been the biggest challenge and struggle, I continue to face. That part of running a business is new to me. I’m also learning to be on camera, which is not a comfortable place for me as an artist. I love to be behind the paintbrush.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Watercolor pet portraits is my specialty. I am really most proud of capturing their spirit and life with paint on a piece of paper.

One of the things I most proud of is capturing the look and love of each dog and their parents.

What text me apart is I love painting their eyes I see the soul of each dog or cat or horse or pet that I paint and I feel their spirit with me

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
For me, I believe the relationship with the pet families and getting to know their pets personalities. Especially when it’s a memorial painting and a pet has passed on.
