Daily Inspiration: Meet Rosita Moimoi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosita Moimoi.

Rosita Moimoi

Hi Rosita, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Rosita Moimoi, but I am well known as “Sizzay.” I am 32yo and I was born and raised in Tri-City, Oceanside. I had a rough childhood growing up that included gang activity, drugs, and violence. Through the mist of trauma, hurt, depression– my siblings used our neighborhood park, John Landes, as an outlet to free us from everything that was going on in the world at that time. John Landes Park had a recreation center that we would go to and actually be a kid. We made childhood friends, ran free in the sand, played tag and hide and go seek, arts and crafts and even went on field trips. Unfortunately, they closed John Landes because it was being ran down by drug dealers and gangs.

Fast forward; we’re all adults now and living a better life thanks to God.

My sister fell in love with this new way of fitness called Xtreme Hip Hop and introduced it to our family. At first, we weren’t interested, but then an instructor held a class in Oceanside, and we decided to try. I experienced my first class and was hooked since. I fell in love with Xtreme Hip Hop so much I became an instructor in less than a year. Today, I’m currently on my second year of teaching and growing my community. I went from teaching classes once a week at a park to teaching three times a week!

My biggest pride and joy is giving back to my community. John Landes Recreation Center re-opened in August 2023, and I am now teaching Xtreme Hip Hop on Thursdays at that location. I also teach on Tuesdays at the Hill Street Country Club and Fridays at EoS Oceanside. The step community has grown so much these past few years, and it’s all thanks to God!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Some of my struggles was trying to purchase a large amount of boards for my class. Most retailers didn’t sell in bulk, so it took a long time to finally get a good amount of boards to teach my first class. Another struggle was trying to find a studio to host my classes at due to the weather. During the summer, doing class outside- sometimes step boards could possibly melt. During the fall and winter, it was too cold to have class outside in the evening time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a certified Xtreme Hip Hop (step) Instructor. I specialize in fitness and is known in my community for making a difference with health. I am most proud of how far I have come with bringing this new way of fitness to my city and community. It has grown over the last 2 years, and I am “Xtremely” proud! What sets me apart from others is I don’t do this for money. I do it to make a difference in people’s lives. Showing my community another fun way of fitness! God has given me a special talent, and my purpose here is to service His people.
