Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina & Jason Crowell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our story began in the most unexpected and perfect way at a skate park in 2021. Jason skateboards, I roller skate, and one day he complimented me on my custom Vans skates. That small moment turned into a friendship built on creativity, adventure, and genuine kindness. We quickly realized we shared a deep love for jewelry. Jason had already been making it for years, and I had spent over a decade working in the industry.
Jason is a self-taught jeweler with a background in action sports. His hands-on creativity, passion, and love for storytelling through metalwork gave Crowell Designs its foundation. I brought in my experience in marketing, design, and organization, and eventually began learning how to make jewelry myself.
We’re two people who fell in love and decided to build something meaningful together. Crowell Designs is our shared vision. It’s where passion, craftsmanship, and love come together to create one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect the people who wear them.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but it’s been a meaningful one. Like many small businesses, we’ve faced a lot of learning curves. We started everything from scratch, just the two of us, and had to figure out how to price our work, manage taxes, promote ourselves, and handle production all at once.
One of the hardest parts has been balancing creativity with the business side. There have been moments of burnout and doubt, but we’ve learned so much through it all. What keeps us going is our love for what we do and the support we’ve felt from our community. Every challenge has helped us grow and made the journey that much more worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We make handmade jewelry with a focus on unique, meaningful pieces. A lot of what we do is one of a kind. We’re really drawn to techniques that feel hands-on and a little unpredictable, like sand casting. It’s messy, earthy, and no two pieces come out the same, which is part of why we love it so much.
We’re also proud of a wire-wrapped ring Jason made that placed third at the San Diego Del Mar Fair. That was such a cool moment for us, especially since so much of what we do is self-taught and from the heart.
What makes us different is that everything we create comes from the two of us. No big team, no outsourcing. Just us, working together, learning as we go, and putting care into every piece. We don’t want our jewelry to feel mass-produced or trendy. We want it to feel like something that means something, whether it’s a custom piece for someone or something we made just because it felt right.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We really believe that people are shifting toward more intentional shopping. Over the next five to ten years, we think there’s going to be a bigger focus on handmade work, small businesses, and art that feels personal. A lot of people are tired of fast fashion and mass-produced everything. They want to know who made what they’re wearing, and they want it to mean something.
That’s already happening in small ways, and we think it’s only going to grow. We’ve even made stickers and shirts with one of our core messages: “Anti Mass Produced Jewelry Club” It’s something we really stand behind. We hope the industry continues to move toward more connection, sustainability, and individuality, and away from soulless, factory-made stuff that all looks the same.
