Daily Inspiration: Meet Shanell Cedeño

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanell Cedeño.

Hi Shanell, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started the beauty industry in 2000 right out of high school while living in Seattle. Continued my education in advanced cutting. Becoming a cutting specialist & stylist in special occasions for seven years. In 2008 my husband and I moved to San Diego with our two babies at the time. Brand new to SD I had to start all over, no salon to work in, no clients. I was hungry, motivated & very driven and took on a challenge to being a booth renter for a year. My husband was/is my biggest supporter and helped drive clients my way with recommending his co-workers. I worked in a few salons over the years to gain clientele until I decided to further my career & knowledge in the industry. In 2012 I became an Instructor at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego for four years. In 2015, I was inspired to start my own business Beautiful You By Shanell Cedeño and decided to focus 100% on the business. With no experience in owning a business, I took a chance on myself along with my family supporting this decision 100% of the process. Started in a small three chair studio in Mission Hills inside of Capello. The owner’s Joe & Carrie believed and trusted in our mission. We grew fast and made a lot of noise in San Diego in our small space. In 2019 & 4 years in our location came to a turn with a break in, vandalizing and money stolen. Hesitant to post such a dramatic & sad story on social media, I did it anyway. People had to know we have haters on the prowl. I shared my story & the salon’s disaster. God was and still is on our side, in 2019 I received a message from a stranger who saw my story on social media. We met in person and she offered me an amazing deal I couldn’t refuse. To Sonya, I am forever grateful to for also believing me and our mission. In 2020 we relocated to what is now Beautiful You Sis in the heart of Barrio Logan. Together both companies One I own and Glamyourous I co-own are located at this location.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This isn’t something that gets easier, I’m just getting better at the mission I started.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am business owner of San Diego’s premier salon Beautiful You Sis, Co-Owner of Glamyourous a makeup shop, spa, hair & makeup onsite business.

I specialize in business operations, three days out of the week I take on guests. I specialize in blonding & extensions installation.

Known for our live and upbeat salon vibes, influencing locally, hosting beauty events in our community and within our salon & spa. Mostly, I’m always taking care of my people. My family is my inspiration and who I do it for. From clientele to the employees with out you all, we wouldn’t be here with out the continued support.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Become rich within yourself. Long before becoming rich in your bank account. Money comes and goes, people & peace don’t.
