Daily Inspiration: Meet Shaun Bacus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun Bacus.

Hi Shaun, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been into music my whole life. I actually started out playing trombone before I ever touched production. That gave me an early love for sound and rhythm, but when I discovered electronic music, it completely flipped my world. I started producing in my bedroom, experimenting nonstop and trying to make something heavier, more chaotic, and more emotional than anything I’d heard. The underground electronic scene was the first to really embrace it, and from there things grew into touring, festivals, and releases with artists and labels I once looked up to. For me, it’s never been about following rules, it’s about creating an energy people can truly feel in their chest. That drive is what’s carried me from day one to now, and it’s still what keeps me pushing forward.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. There have been a lot of highs, but also plenty of struggles along the way. Writer’s block is something I’ve had to push through at different points, and navigating the industry side of things can be tough too. Label politics are real, and I’ve also dealt with situations where managers or agents didn’t always make the best career calls on my behalf. But I think those challenges are part of the journey, they’ve taught me how important it is to stay true to my vision, surround myself with the right people, and keep creating no matter what.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Half of my life is spent in the studio, producing music, designing my own artwork, brainstorming creative brand ideas with my wife Cynthia (aka CRUNCHi), and working on music videos or photoshoots. The other half is on the road, flying out every week to play shows and festivals all over the globe. I’m known for creating an aggressive blend of trap, dubstep, and rap that’s meant to hit people with pure energy. What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve been able to do this consistently, to keep dropping music that connects, and to still be playing massive festivals around the world after all these years. What sets me apart is that this isn’t just about music for me, it’s a full creative world I’m constantly building sonically, visually, and experientially.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory has to be when I got my first “studio” set up, if you could even call it that. At the time, I was using my grandma’s old Windows Vista computer, a USB Rock Band mic, and a pair of little Logitech speakers in the kitchen of my childhood home. It was as bare-bones as it gets, but for me it felt like the biggest thing in the world. That setup is where I first started experimenting with sound and chasing the idea of creating something that was completely my own.
