Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacie Barba
Hi Stacie , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I lived in NYC and Italy and then moved back to California and worked as a technical project manager for AT&T when I got married and had my first child I quit working as a technical project manager because it required so much traveling. Then, I started my company “A Day of Elegance” I was an event planner who did weddings and corporate events for amazing brides and grooms as well as local news casters, PR assistants and NFL players. I was also recognized as event planner of the year 2 years in a row by the knot.com and “best of” and A lister. I sold my company and got into real estate and still do it. It’s a love and a passion.
I have been married for 24 years and we were going to renew our wedding’s vows. So I started looking for magazines and other ways of finding vendors for the planning and inspiration of my vow renewal.
There was nothing out there. When I was an event planner I I advertised in every local magazine because the one thing I knew was how important it was to get your branding out there and the more the. Brides and grooms see me the more the would possibly want me to plan their wedding.
That’s when I decided to call the past owner of the magazine and see what happened. She gave me the low down and then I did my due diligence and found out that the new young generation loves magazines. It’s nostalgic they say. Hahaha. They also are tired of taking pictures off their phone and then they can’t find the photo that they took that inspired them for their wedding. If they have a magazine, it gives them the opportunity to take the page and put it in a folder to save it and make a vision board with it And that’s when I realized I’m going to take over San Diego style Wedding Magazine.
As I had made a deal out with the past owner I had been at a venue doing something and I ran into my now business partner Alyssa McNees who happened to be the creative director of Exquisite weddings magazine back in the day when I was an event planner. Haha. What a small world it is. The crazy thing is I haven’t seen her for at least 10 years so it was perfect timing.
We had coffee and talked about the magazine and that was when Sam Diego Style Wedding Magazine was reborn.
It has been an amazing year I have been able to re establish relationships from the past and bring them in on the magazine, and Alyssa gets to design the look of the magazine. We get to see so many brides and grooms and hopefully be a pivotal inspiration of there wedding planning process.
Let me know if you want more info. I can send you a ton more just wasn’t sure exactly what you were looking for
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a building road. We literally rebuild the whole magazine. Established new relationships and had to gain trust of past relationships. It has not been easy because they have to make sure we aren’t going to be here one day and then gone the next. So we have had to really show our value.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I used to live in Italy and New York. I graduated with concentration and Fashion and then I have owned several companies. I have four kids and I married.
I am currently the owner and publisher of San Diego Wedding Magazine, which has been around for 30 years. We pride ourselves on being the only Magazine that’s been around as long as it has locally we service Orange County, San Diego, Temecula, Palm Springs, and parts of Mexico, but the magazine is seen all over the United States.
I most proud of how fast we’ve been able to grow it within the year we started to launch it again. And we’ve been able to make it a luxury feel Wedding Magazine for all different budgets to Inspire brides and grooms for their wedding day we want to be the go to for people that are planning weddings in San Diego county
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that San diego is a beach city, but I’ve traveled a lot and it’s one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The temperature is the best and people are friendly. There are a lot of entrepreneurs in San Diego.
I really don’t have any negative to say about San diego other than I sometimes wish it would snow hahaha.
The real estate is high. So the cost of living can be rough for younger people just getting married.
