Daily Inspiration: Meet Stephanie Mantiply

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Mantiply.

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My passion for photography started when I was in High School. I learned all the basics about lighting, film development, and most importantly capturing emotions. When I became a new mother years ago, I wanted to capture every “first” moment. And as my children grew, my passion for digital photography did as well. This newfound digital photography was a new rage at the time, so I shifted and I started learning everything I could about digital photography. I took classes, I watched every YouTube video I could find. I engaged in as many learning opportunities as possible. With my newfound knowledge and passion, I started my small family-owned business JAM Photography. (JAM is the initials of all three of my children.)

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
With any new business, there are always challenges. For me, the most challenging aspect of starting a new business is juggling the responsibilities that come with the business, as well as maintaining time and focus for my personal commitments. As I have continued my journey, I’ve learned pretty well how to navigate all the different hats of being a wife, mom, friend, and business owner. I focus my energy on efficiently managing my time so I can balance all aspects.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
JAM Photography specializes in Family and High School Senior photography. Photo sessions are held in a variety of settings, from outdoor to traditional home settings. During all my sessions, my focus is continually on ensuring everyone feels comfortable, can be themselves, and most importantly enjoying the experience. With families, I encourage them to interact naturally with one and another so I can capture who they are as a family. When they see their portraits, they always tell me how they could feel the loving emotion and warm comforts of their family through the photos. With High School Seniors, I like to get to know them before the actual session. We usually have a conversation, and I find out what hobbies they have or what sports they play. We incorporate all these into the actual photo session to capture exactly who they are at this time in their life. It’s a fantastic moment as they prepare for the next step in their life.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
San Diego is filled with so many different places to explore, from beaches to museums and great restaurants, with pretty much perfect weather year around, it’s hard not to find San Diego charming.
