Daily Inspiration: Meet Tiffie Starchild

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffie Starchild.

Tiffie Starchild

Hi Tiffie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well, like a lot of folks on Instagram, I started by posting things that were interesting to me – mostly of a lot of Disneyland and pictures of my food lol. There wasn’t an intention to become an “influencer”, I just enjoyed sharing the things that I liked and noticed that people started to pay attention. Eventually, I got brave enough to start a YouTube channel where I could vlog and share my opinions on television and movies. I started contributing to Black Nerd Problems (which allowed me to be SUPER authentic in my nerdiness on a larger platform), and I was ultimately able to build a really strong, connected community of other people interested in the same things that I am.

I still share content of Disneyland and food (the camera always eats first), but now I also get to explore all the different facets of my creativity. I feel really fortunate because just being myself has led to a lot of opportunities and paths I never anticipated, but here I am.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say that it’s been varied? Sometimes I struggle with the business aspect of full-time content creation. Contracts? MONEY??? I just want to make dope things, bro – not deal with numbers and negotiation.

Interacting a lot on social media also invites in a lot of negativity. I don’t engage with a lot of it, but I still see every rude, wild, toxic, and violent comment that hits my notifications. Every single one of them. The hardest part about that is not swinging back because ngl – I don’t mind a good tussle, but that’s not “healthy” or whatever.

I also feel like every job has challenges, and, at the end of the day, I’m super fortunate to be able to do what I do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a content creator that focuses mainly on nerd, fantasy, and sci-fi culture. I grew up loving all of these things, so it’s great that I get to make a living talking about and being inspired by them. My content ranges from video editorials, lifestyle, and self-produced skits to cosplay and themed photoshoots. Right now, I’m most known for my skit series “Villain PR,” which is a satirical view of popular villains and how I view them as (mostly) innocent. At the heart of it all, I try to keep my content bright, fun, and informative and give the folks in my community a safe space to freely express themselves.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Authenticity – being myself has always been the best bet.
