Daily Inspiration: Meet Tim Botti

We’d like to introduce you to Tim Botti, who DJs as Docta Botti.

Hi Tim, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been living here in San Diego for 10 years. I moved here from Boston, where I was going to college, to finish my final Physical therapy internship.

I began DJing after years of teaching indoor cycling classes; those classes developed my ear for music of all genres. The pandemic stopped my ability to teach cycling classes and allowed me to lean into music more.

I have my doctorate of Physical therapy and work full-time as a home health Physical therapist. My current goal is to marry my two passions and provide PT and bodywork services to artists at shows and festivals to allow DJ/producers to function physically at their highest ability not only today; but as their career grows.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle I ran into was not having enough hours in the day. I’ve always been one to try to stay busy via a lot of different avenues. Being forced to slow down over the last few years allowed me to shift my focus and give more attention to my passion for music.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I went to school to become a physical therapist and wanted to focus on sports rehabilitation. I had the opportunity to work behind the bench with the Indiana Pacers during their 2012 season, which was a dream come true but made me wonder if that was the path that I wanted to go.

After graduation, I worked in an outpatient therapy clinic where I learned a ton, but finally found my lane when I began doing home health PT. Working with people one on one in their home proved to be most rewarding for me. It stokes my fire to get people of all ages back to where they want to be following a surgery or injury.

The thing that makes me glow in a similar way is looking out over a crowd and seeing people get on their feet and dance and sing along with their friends (or strangers!)

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Just start! The hardest thing is to get the ball rolling, but once the momentum gets going it becomes easier and easier every day. Go out and support the music you like and meet like-minded people that dig the same thing you do.
