Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Liebelt.
Hi Tina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My business partner and best friend, Belinda suggested we start selling some of our handmade original creations online. Sew Geek Studios was born! Our shop features unique geek-crafted items such as aprons, bags, hats, keychains, bookmarks, etc. in various geek-inspired prints. We opened our Etsy shop in May of 2018 and did our first craft fair that month as well. We collaborate on new items for the shop and decide what fun newsprints to use. In 2020 our business took off with people requesting face masks out of our geeky fabrics.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was tough last year keeping up with the demand for face masks. It’s just the two of us sewing, packaging, shipping all orders. And we both have “real” jobs and families that keep us busy. During 2020 many of our local customers asked to pick up their orders at our homes instead of having them mailed. Sew Geek Belinda has a full-size plastic skeleton on her front door that she dresses seasonally. He holds a basket and she would leave orders in the basket for hands-free delivery.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We both love to be creative and to make things with our hands! We have known each other since kindergarten but bonded in 7th grade in art class. Some of our early passions were puppetry, photography, and painting. Now we both enjoy sewing (obviously) as well as baking and throwing kick-ass kids parties.
What matters most to you?
Loyalty is what matters most to us, both personally and professionally. We have maintained our lifelong friendship the same way we keep our customers coming back for more- by treating others the way we would like to be treated and by standing by each other.
