Daily Inspiration: Meet Tyler Reber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Reber.

Hi Tyler, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started taking photos my first year of high school. Through volunteering at my church and my school’s photo/video program, I fell more and more in love with it very quickly. Starting my 2nd year, I started taking photography more seriously. I began working in photography and growing my skills more and more. I love everything I do. I now work at that church and help people fall in love with photography and Jesus. Through multiple photography workshops and leading a middle school boys group, I get to teach and pour into other people’s lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the biggest obstacle was, and still is, working as a teenage boy in this industry. No matter how good my work looks or how many credentials I may have, people still have a hard time trusting me with their project and their money. Not because I’ve done anything to lose their trust but entirely because of my age. They think that they don’t have to pay me as much because I’m not supporting a family yet when that isn’t the case.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in photography. I document my live and other’s lives. I get to take a moment in time and stop it forever. That photo will be around forever. There’s no denying it didn’t happen. The smiles and laughs between a loving couple frozen for their future grandkids. A photography from the top of Mt Whitney to show my grandparents. I get to share stories with people who weren’t there. I’m most proud of the teaching I do and the people I’ve helped to develop. I host bi-monthly workshops at the church to help people fall in love with what I do. I share with them how to do my job and how to do it best. I watch them fall in love and get sucked into the hole of photography.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Well. I’m still growing up. My parents always told me that I was a very calm and a “roll with the punches” type of kid. I loved crafts and creating things. I would spend hours modifying a nerf gun or solving problems. My dad and I would tear apart engines and then go riding in the desert. I was always academically advanced. I spent an entire summer creating daily vlogs. Not because I was getting hundreds of views, but because I enjoyed it. I’m only 18 now, but I was lucky enough to found my career at the age of 15.
