Dejourne Henry of All over on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Dejourne Henry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Dejourne, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Most mornings, I’m up by 5:36 AM — before the world really wakes up. That quiet space is my reset button, my time to ground myself before the day starts moving.

I start with self-care — not just skincare or a quick stretch, but intentionally checking in with myself. How am I feeling? What’s on my mind? I give myself space to breathe and center.

Next comes journaling — I write about the day before, reflecting on what went well, what I learned, and where I can grow. This isn’t about perfection, it’s about perspective.

Then, I set my goals for the day. Not a to-do list a mile long — just the key things I want to accomplish. I picture what it will feel like to get them done, and that vision carries me through the hours ahead.

By the time 90 minutes have passed, I’ve already aligned my mind, body, and intentions — ready to step into the day with clarity and focus.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Dejourne Henry, owner of My DJS Events — a brand built on a legacy of passion, entertainment, and excellence. My late husband, Earl Henry, founded My DJS with a creative vision to bring unforgettable music and energy to weddings and events across Southern California. Over the years, we’ve grown from a premier DJ company into a full-service experience provider — adding photo booths, live entertainment, event production, and most recently, our own luxury estate venue and shuttle services.

Today, I’m focused on scaling My DJS to fully realize the dream Earl and I shared — expanding our reach, enhancing our client experiences, and becoming the go-to name for high-end, all-inclusive event services. Every booking is more than an event to us — it’s a chance to create memories, honor our history, and innovate for the future.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom.
She’s always had this way of seeing the best parts of me — the parts I didn’t even know were there yet. Before I had the confidence, before I had the track record, she saw the leader, the creative, the woman who could turn a vision into reality. She spoke life into my dreams when they were just ideas, and she reminded me of my strength when I doubted it. Looking back, so much of what I’ve accomplished started with her belief in me.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?

Suffering taught me resilience in a way success never could.
Success can be loud, celebrated, and validating — but suffering is quiet. It forces you to sit with yourself, to dig deep, to find strength you didn’t know you had. It taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of building from the inside out. It showed me that true growth doesn’t happen when everything is going right — it happens when you’re tested and still choose to keep going.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would tell you that quality time with my kids and my family is what matters most to me. We have a multigenerational home, so our days are filled with connection, shared meals, and moments that remind me how important it is to slow down and be present with the people I love

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think the biggest misunderstanding about my legacy will be that it’s only about building a business. My DJS, the estate venue, the shuttle services — those are pieces of it, but the heart of my legacy is about people. It’s about creating opportunities, honoring the vision Earl and I dreamed up together, and building spaces where memories are made. Long after the events are over, I want my legacy to be about the lives touched, the communities strengthened, and the dreams sparked — not just the services we provided.
