Dewayne Booker & Linda Booker shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Dewayne & Linda, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day starts early with a moment to pray,( because it’s going to get busy) checking emails and reviewing our sales dashboard to see how things are tracking. We usually spend the first few hours handling customer inquiries and prepping orders.
Midday is often filled with supplier calls, marketing tweaks, or social media updates. We also touch base with our team to see how our stores are progressing.
Since we last spoke, we’ve expanded our busines. We have added Booker’s Barbershop, Z’s Beauty Salon, C’s Nail Art & Pedi Salon and DLB Cafe. We wrap up the day by reviewing progress and setting goals for tomorrow—it’s busy, but exciting!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, we are Dewayne and Linda Booker, and we are proud to represent DLBooker Enterprise—a vibrant, family-owned business rooted in passion, style, and community. Our journey began with a simple idea: to create a space where people feel confident, cared for, and inspired.
DLBooker Enterprise is a multi-faceted brand offering gentlemen’s and women’s apparel that blends everyday comfort with standout fashion. But we’re more than just clothing—we’re a lifestyle. We also operate three salons where beauty meets self-care, and a café, where guests can enjoy great coffee with a personal touch.
As a family business, we treat every customer like part of our extended family. Whether you’re shopping for a new look, getting pampered in one of our salons, or grabbing a caramel frappe at our café, you’ll feel the warmth, creativity, and dedication that define DLBooker Enterprise.
We’re currently expanding our brand presence and exploring new ways to connect with our community—both locally and online. It’s an exciting time for us.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
Our biggest influence when it comes to work was our family—especially our dads. They taught us that work isn’t just about earning a living—it’s about building something meaningful, showing up with integrity, and taking pride in what you do.
From an early age, we can remember our fathers teaching us things that we later passed down to our children. Those early lessons still guide us today. They taught us that success comes from consistency, creativity, and community—and that when you work with heart, people feel it.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Running a family business like DLBooker Enterprise—especially one with multiple branches like our apparel line, salons, and café—comes with its fair share of challenges. However, there was never a period when we wanted to call it quits.
What kept us grounded were the things our parents passed down to us, our family, our friends, and our prayer life. We started this journey together, and in those tough moments, we leaned on each other. We reminded ourselves why we began: to build something meaningful, not just for us, but for our community.
Seeing our loyal customers walk through the doors, hearing their stories, and watching our team grow makes going through growing pains a lot easier.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies our industry tells itself is that flashy ads and big marketing budgets are the only way to grow a brand. In reality, word of mouth is—and always has been—the most powerful form of advertising.
When people genuinely love what you offer, they talk about it. That kind of organic buzz builds trust, loyalty, and community in a way no billboard or social media campaign ever could. Don’t get us wrong, these things play a part, but it still never beats word of mouth.
At DLBooker Enterprise, we’ve seen firsthand how a great experience—whether it’s finding the perfect outfit, getting pampered in one of our salons, or enjoying a quiet coffee moment at our café—naturally leads to referrals. Happy customers become ambassadors. That’s the kind of marketing you can’t buy, and it’s the kind that lasts.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If we retired tomorrow, we think our customers would miss the family feel we bring to everything we do. DLBooker Enterprise isn’t just a business—it’s a place where people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. Whether they’re shopping for clothes, getting their hair done in one of our salons, or grabbing a coffee at our café, they’re stepping into an environment built on love, trust, and connection.
We treat our customers like family because that’s how we started—as a family business. That energy is woven into every experience, and it’s what keeps people coming back. It’s not just about the products or services—it’s about the relationships, the laughter, and the sense of belonging. That’s what they’d miss most, and honestly, that’s what makes it all worth it.
