Eric Flores’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Eric Flores shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Eric, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Definitely playing Electric Guitar! I want to make more time for playing music again.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Wrestling/No Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach. I founded Golgotha Grappling Academy in New Zealand, as a charity/non-profit organization. Part of the motivation was to get kids off the streets, away from the gangs, build confidence, and teach self-defense. This was also true for adults. I am currently in Australia, with the same ethos.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I no longer believe…”I’m not good enough” in every sense of the phrase/statement.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
At 17 years old in October 1999, I started volunteering/serving my Youth Group at church. I wanted to help troubled teens in Southern California, like my Youth Pastor John Ellis helped me in so many ways.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My faith in Jesus Christ and my family for sure. I would also add, that whether it’s business or volunteer work, I just love helping and empowering people.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
This is a great question! Fortunately, I am doing what I was born to do and I am very grateful. However, it did take some time to figure it out, and that’s okay. To this day, people with good and bad intentions still try to tell me what to do. I would have missed out on so many blessings and opportunities if I would have listened!
