Exploring Life & Business with Andy Mandujano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Mandujano.

Hi Andy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started playing electronic music and instrumentals on the streets on the corner of 5th and Island, then I met a freestyler who liked my music and we used to get together and we make it habitual whenever we get out of work, around 2 am. After that, I met a rapper called Mariachi G, who introduced me into the hip-hop scene in San Diego. He took me into HipHopWends at A/C Lounge back then. That’s where I got my first presentation live ever. I started seeing how the event was organized so I decided to start my own shows.

My first show ever organized by me and another collaborator (Dj Tech) was in Diamond Jim’s in Chula Vista. Since then, I haven’t stop organizing events all over San Diego, Los Angeles and Tijuana. After that, I started my own record label. I have five artists: M Hernan Ubaldo Goten P Madero Icker. We dropped our first album on June 20th, 2020 and it got 80,000 streams. Since then, we have dropped around ten albums and singles, reaching almost one million streams altogether. Now I’m organizing in collaboration with a Non-Profit organization from Tijuana called Tijuana Sin Hambre in which we do several duties around the State of Baja California, México like serving food to homeless people, help refugees and the immigrant community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is not easy. It is not easy at all, you will get turned down, you will get bullied, you will a lot of NO to your face. Hip Hop is a hard genre, you gotta do it the classic way or it is not hip hop.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a record label, we have a studio but it is private right now for COVID.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Music is very important for me. I’m not trying to be the next hip-hop legend. I’m trying to make what’s gonna be the new thing. I’m trying to make tomorrow’s music.
