Hi Adriana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Adriana Martinez. I’m an aspiring entrepreneur. I am the owner of Lash House and I offer eyelash extension services as well as Ombre Brows (permanent makeup). I started in the beauty industry about six years ago when I decided to attend Bellus Academy to pursue a career as an Esthetician! I was a single mother, working and attending school, which was very difficult and demanding, yet rewarding in the end. What got me interested in becoming an Esthetician was my love for skincare and seeing how people’s confidence was renewed.
It was during the schooling process that I fell in love with eyelash extensions which was the birth of my lash journey. From there, I’ve worked at a few different lash studios with the goal of refining my skills and a belief that hard work really does pay off. I believe highly in educating myself as much as possible, so I have taken multiple courses (I still continue to take classes, there is always more to learn). I’ve been able to compete in international competitions, and I’ve earned accreditation along with a training diploma, so I can now pass along my love for lashes to those who have the same passion. What started off as a hope and dream is now becoming a reality! I have to admit that I couldn’t do all of this by myself. My supportive family has encouraged me through every step, and of course, I have to thank all the wonderful and beautiful people that have given me the pleasure to enhance their beauty! Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was definitely a bumpy road for me. I struggled as I didn’t have much time for myself or to spend with my daughter while I was trying to balance school and work. I was frustrated when I wasn’t making as much money at work because I couldn’t take on extra hours with the school. There were times that I wanted to quit, but I knew I had to keep going. I was determined and needed to set a good example for my daughter. Honestly, everything happening now outweighs my struggles. I am truly blessed.
We’ve been impressed with Lash House, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I opened Lash House this year in Hillcrest! I offer eyelash extensions and ombre brows as well as training for eyelash extensions! Volume eyelash extensions are my specialty. What sets Lash House apart from others is the experience, education, and attention to detail. Each person has a set of lashes/brows that is customized to flatter their own face and eye shape. I only use high-quality products and maintaining the integrity of the natural lashes and skin during procedures is a top priority.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was very artistic and a little on the shy side. I spent a lot of time with my grandmother, and she always had the best skincare products. Ever since I can remember I was fascinated with all of her beauty products and would experiment with them by giving myself facials, or I would play with her makeup! I would even create my own face masks and body scrubs. That is what started my love of beauty.
