Exploring Life & Business with Akram Ilaian of Suba Car Detailing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akram Ilaian

Hi Akram, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in San Marcos and as a family of immigrants we always knew that success takes hard work and struggle. My grandfather was born in a small village called Suba on the outskirts of Jerusalem, Palestine. Then he was then forcibly displaced and my father was born in Bethlehem, a different part of Palestine. Eventually after a lot of struggles my father found a better home for his family here in San Diego. That’s why I called my business Suba Car Detailing in order to carry on the legacy of my late grandfather and the struggles he went through. And what started off as a small high school gig with my cousin, turned into a full time business that makes enough to take care of my wife and kids.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road, but every challenge has been a lesson. One of the biggest obstacles has been the high level of competition. San Diego’s perfect weather makes it an ideal place for mobile car detailing, so it’s a business that a lot of people jump into. But getting to that next level where you’re not just another detailer but a trusted name takes real commitment.

Another challenge is that San Diego has a unique car culture. People here take a lot of pride in their vehicles, whether it’s high-end sports cars, classic cruisers, or off-road rigs covered in desert dust. That means expectations are high, and customers know the difference between an average wash and true professional detailing. I had to prove myself by consistently delivering results that went beyond just a clean car things like paint correction, ceramic coatings, and deep interior restoration that keep vehicles looking pristine in the California sun.

Also, running a mobile business in a city like this has its own hurdles. Some areas have strict water usage rules, and traffic can make scheduling a challenge. But at the end of the day, those obstacles pushed me to fine-tune my process, focus on eco-friendly methods, and build a reputation for quality work. Now, I see those early struggles as stepping stones to success.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Suba Car Detailing is a mobile auto detailing company dedicated to providing top-tier car care across San Diego County. While we offer a full range of detailing services, our specialty is Ceramic Coating a long-term paint protection solution that not only enhances a car’s appearance but also shields it from harsh UV rays, road debris, and the coastal elements that can take a toll on vehicles in Southern California.

What sets us apart is our commitment to quality and convenience. We bring professional grade detailing straight to our customers, whether they’re at home, work, or anywhere in between. San Diego has a diverse car scene, from luxury vehicles and classic cars to off-road trucks that need extra care. We tailor our services to each customer’s needs, ensuring their vehicle gets the attention it deserves.

Beyond just cleaning cars, we focus on long term protection and maintenance. Our goal is to not only make vehicles look brand new but also preserve their value over time. Whether it’s a full ceramic coating, interior deep cleaning, or regular maintenance, we take pride in delivering results that keep our customers coming back.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
San Diego has been nothing but good to me, with its Mediterranean climate it makes me think of our home country a lot. Anyone who visits San Diego never wants to leave, that is until they realize the cost of living! But with a successful business we can make it work.
