Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Maples.
Hi Alice, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a lifelong lover of all things wellness related! I traveled the world on a quest to learn how to help people live a healthy and balanced life. I interned in health clinics in Costa Rica, where we went door to door doing preventative health check-ups (Costa Rica outperforms US in life expectancy at a fraction of the cost because of these PREVENTATIVE measures). I then studied a bit of Traditional Chinese Medicine at an internship in China at Beijing Medical University + Peking University exchange program through Pitzer College’s study abroad program. Here I learned that traditional western medicine and emergency care is a necessary type of healthcare, but it is not the only way. In TCM, they focus on creating a healthy environment internally and externally for optimal health. I then got great experience working for HealthCorps as a program coordinator working in South Los Angeles. This was incredibly valuable but admittedly heart-wrenching because I saw first-hand how underserved some of our populations in America are. I then spent almost a decade in the fitness industry as a personal trainer and yoga instructor in Los Angeles. During Covid, I was able to serve fortune 500 companies across the US as a virtual wellness coach as we all navigated the pandemic. During this time in isolation, I was also able to create my company Recess Everyday! More on that next!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my favorite books: “The Obstacle is the Way” by Ryan Holiday. All of my trials and tribulations I have used to fuel my desire and drive to succeed. Does that answer the question? 😉
As you know, we’re big fans of Recess Everyday LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Recess Everyday is on a mission to make the world a happier, healthier, and more connected place. Our current initiative is developing custom wellness programs for companies. We do this through leadership training, workshops, programs, and more led by experts in the wellness industry. The focus is on proactivity, positivity, and most importantly fun!
A couple of our successes even as a new company: developing a custom stretch certification program that is currently helping thousands reduce pain and improve chiropractic outcomes and a yoga program for active-duty special operations military to reduce their pain and improve focus.
We are currently accepting new corporate clients! You can reach out to CEO Alice Maples on our website: recesseveryday.org
Recess Everyday’s tagline: Remember to Play!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me looks like creating a wellness revolution. In our country, hate, greed, and sickness is dividing and killing Americans. We can do better. I believe it comes from a change in leadership styles across the board, a shift in culture, and coming together for common goals. Currently, I am working on this from 3 different angles, first is from within, second is within my community volunteerism, and third is through my work with Recess Everyday. On a micro level of success, I love helping my private clients achieve their health and wellness goals; on a mid-level of success, I love helping shaping company culture through leadership trainings and wellness programs, and on a macro level, it is uniting (most LOL) Americans to agree that we can do better to improve preventative health initiatives so that we can be happier, healthier and more connected. I believe it all starts with a dream!
