Exploring Life & Business with Angelica Taase of Your Legacy Project

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Taase

Hi Angelica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is Angelica but most people know me as Geli (pronounced jelly). I was born and raised in the Oceanside/Tri-City area. I graduated from Vista High School in 2009 and then did a year or so of community college between Mira Costa and Palomar.

All throughout high school, I always knew that I would be pursuing marketing as a career. Although, I did go to community college, I decided that I was not interested in taking the long route to a “real job”. I decided to take the “experience” route. So, I asked my more experienced friends if any of their workplaces were hiring in their offices. Thankfully, I was given the opportunity to work at the front desk of a senior living community. I knew that the office experience would get me on the right track to the marketing career that I wanted, but I had no idea that I would fall in love with the senior living industry.

I ended up working at the community for about 2 years and climbed my way up to Community Relations Director. It’s a fancy title for being the Sales and Marketing director for a community. The basics of my position are to fill up the building and build their census. You can find people with this title touring potential clients/residents around the community or out in the field, at a health expo, visiting a resident in a skilled facility/hospital or just out in the community building rappor.

Anyway, fast forward a decade (and a few different companies), I now have 3 little boys, a loving husband and an adorable bulldog in our home in Temecula. I’ve been a Community Relations Director since 2013. I’ve experienced a lot from this career and the senior living industry. Living and working through the pandemic in a care community was nothing short of traumatic. Watching the residents, that we knew, loved and cherished, have to isolate was dark and depressing. It forced the team to get creative with this new barrier, because we knew we had to figure out a way to bring back some joy to their days. It ended up being little things like playing fun music while we delivered their meals or doing a “drive-by happy hour” or telling silly knock-knock jokes that would bring joy back to their days. I knew capturing these moments would be great for the community’s social media, so I started collecting content. Then I found myself collecting content everywhere, even more of my personal content. That’s when I started posting more on social media.

For me, it was reels on instagram. I was making cute little videos that were receiving great responses. These videos may have been something as simple as a few photos and music, but then I started getting more creative with longer form videos. I added fonts, visual effects, sometimes a voiceover and ‘boom’ my videos are now telling a story.

Video creation has always been a talent that flowed naturally for me. Maybe it stems from seeing my dad and uncles carry around their camcorders and filming everything in the 90’s, or maybe it’s from when my family had a computer that had Windows Movie Maker, but it wasn’t until 2023 that I realized I could do something with this talent of mine.

A few digital marketing courses later and hiring an amazing coach; now you’ve got my storytelling initiative, “Your Legacy Project”.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been far from a smooth road. The pandemic was a huge wrench and anyone in the healthcare industry will attest to that. Burnout was at it’s highest at this time and I also had a new born, a baby and a toddler. So, that was a not-so-smooth time.

Once I started taking the digital marketing courses, I was dealing with time management between learning, parenting and working. I also ran into so many scams. Anything online has the potential to be a scam, but I had to risk putting myself out there to get what I wanted to learn from it. After putting some of what I had learned to use, I found myself stuck again. I needed a coach!

I hired her with the intentions of her helping me get my business up and running, but I quickly realized that there was so much personal growth to get through first. It’s been the most uncomfortable, exhilarating yet fulfilling experience. Without her coaching, “Your Legacy Project” wouldn’t exist today.

We’ve been impressed with Your Legacy Project, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Your Legacy Project is a storytelling intiative through video creation. I specialize in video creation for those that want to share their story with their loved ones, customer base or audience. It’s also a keepsake for clients and their families to have forever.

I’ve been told that I am a great listener and have the ability to make people feel comfortable enough to share their story. This is a very helpful trait for my current 9-5, but it is also a core pillar of my business. I take a very personal approach to understanding my clients and the message that they want to convey in their video. While it was seniors that inspired this business, that is not to say that is the only clientele I service. I have also helped brands and businesses share their stories.

I truly enjoy creating content, but my passion is in the story telling creations. Whether it’s a slideshow/montage, tribute, biography or autobiography, I am here to help you bring your story to life.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality that I feel is most important to my success is my resilience and sense of humor. I can be very stubborn at times, and when things don’t go the way I want it to(but the way they’re meant to), I always find a way to laugh about it and move forward. As a growing entrepreneur, this is something that will be helpful along the way. It’s also been very helpful in my parenting and career journey.
