Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Cohen.
Ariana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been passionate about storytelling. I started my career in local television news, where I spent more than a decade reporting, anchoring, shooting, writing, and producing stories that connected with communities. Along the way, I was fortunate to earn three Emmy Awards and cover everything from breaking news to entertainment and national events.
In 2020, I launched The A-List, my own digital media brand focused on showcasing what’s trending in San Diego and beyond. Through short-form video storytelling, I highlight local businesses, luxury living, travel, wellness, events, and unique experiences while helping brands connect with new audiences in an authentic way.
Today, I combine my background as a TV journalist with content creation and social media strategy. Whether I’m interviewing business owners, covering an event, or creating branded content, my goal is always the same: to tell compelling stories that inform, inspire, and create meaningful connections.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The local news industry is constantly evolving, and navigating an ever-changing media landscape has been one of the biggest challenges. It taught me to adapt, embrace new opportunities, and think beyond traditional television.
Building a business from the ground up has also come with its own challenges. As a creator and entrepreneur, you’re constantly pitching clients, managing every aspect of the business, and keeping up with the fast-paced world of social media. There have been moments of uncertainty, but each challenge has strengthened my resilience, creativity, and confidence.
Looking back, those experiences pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. They gave me the opportunity to combine my background in journalism with digital storytelling, and today I’m able to help businesses share their stories while continuing to do what I love.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The A-List is a digital media brand that shines a spotlight on what’s trending in San Diego and beyond. I create engaging, news-style social media videos that showcase local businesses, luxury living, travel, wellness, restaurants, events, and unique experiences in a way that feels authentic, informative, and entertaining.
What sets me apart is my background as a three-time Emmy Award-winning TV journalist. I bring the credibility, storytelling, and interviewing skills of a reporter while creating content that’s designed for today’s social media audience. Every video is professionally produced, but it also feels genuine and relatable rather than overly scripted or like a traditional advertisement.
I work with businesses, brands, and organizations to create custom video content that helps tell their story, introduce their team, highlight products or services, and connect with potential customers. My goal is always to create content that people actually want to watch and share.
What I’m most proud of is building The A-List from the ground up into a trusted platform with millions of monthly views while staying true to my passion for storytelling. At the end of the day, I want viewers to discover amazing people, places, and experiences, and I want businesses to feel like they have a storyteller and trusted media partner in their corner.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to always be ready to pivot. Whether you work in the corporate world, own a business, or work in media, very little is guaranteed. Companies change, industries evolve, and circumstances can shift overnight. That’s why it’s so important to keep developing your skills, believe in yourself, and know that your value isn’t defined by one job or one title.
Don’t let fear or money keep you from pursuing something bigger. Sometimes the doors that close are the very ones that push you toward opportunities and dreams you never imagined for yourself. Trust your abilities, be willing to adapt, and remember that your greatest asset is what you bring to the table, not the name on your business card.
I’d also say to build genuine relationships. Your reputation, work ethic, and how you treat people matter just as much as your talent. Some of the biggest opportunities in my career have come from connections I’ve built over the years.
Don’t be afraid to start before everything feels perfect. Early in my career, I thought every opportunity had to fit into one specific path, but I’ve learned that some of the best opportunities come from being open to change and saying yes to experiences that help you grow.
Finally, remember that success rarely happens overnight. Stay consistent, keep improving your craft, and don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. Every challenge teaches you something, and those lessons often become the foundation for your biggest successes.
