Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Gabriel.
Hi Austin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my company when I was not satisfied with my current job after getting out of the Marine Corps. I looked at my truck full of tools and ladders and thought, “What can I do to with these to make money?” I thought back to my grandfather teaching me small home improvement tasks throughout my childhood. I decided to be a handyman. I started advertising myself on Angi and Thumbtack. For a month, I operated on my own. Since then, my good friend Jake decided to help me with this business. We have grown from me running everything on my own to having 3 employees and 4 handymen across all of San Diego County. I no longer do handyman work myself, I operate as “Dispatch,” a role that I am training someone to fill right now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the struggles that we have encountered have been numerous. The mentality that we had no other option but succeed is what got us through the struggles. From clients not paying to poor employees to improper quoting, we have lost a lot of time and money along the way.

Gabriel Home Service is a handyman Organization that services all of San Diego County. We work with all home and property owners to complete their home projects and repairs in a timely manner. We are most proud to say that we work with realtors specifically very well. We have created a checklist to provide Realtors to use during their initial walkthrough that they can check through Items on their phone or tablet, and they will be able to provide the customer with a rough estimate and contact Gabriel Home Service with the information to follow up with a real quote. Preparing homes to sell is our bread and butter. We have been acquiring affiliates to give clientele discounts on jobs that we do not specifically offer. Gabriel Home Service is set to be the Realtors Handyman. From listing to sale, we can get what needs to be done in a timely manner.
What makes you happy?
What really makes me happy is providing value. In one way or another, I want to provide value to everyone I meet. When I can help someone with an issue or get someone to fix an urgent problem at home, I am very satisfied.
