Exploring Life & Business with Beppie Mostert of Living Design Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beppie Mostert.

Hi Beppie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Interior Design is my second career, having chosen this path after working very closely with my architect during the building of my home. I realized it was something I enjoyed, got to love and I appreciated the process. I worked for an Interior Designer and loved it, however with the 2008 economic downturn, I found myself without work and had to pivot. That led me to starting my own company and building my own clientele. I haven’t looked back and am blessed with a wonderful book of clients that keep me motivated and inspired.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were ups and downs. The first one was surviving the 2008 recession, and building trust and a name for myself through those difficult years. In 2012 I was invited to assist on a number of new build projects, which provided me with a focused interest in kitchen and bath design. This experience allowed me to accept more focused projects and my love for kitchen design was born. In 2017, I had to slow down and take a short hiatus, as a result of a cancer diagnosis, however, I had clients who supported me and were super patient as I recovered. COVID had an enormous impact on my business, as we (contractors and remodelers) were seen as a group of essential workers and many homeowners, who now found themselves housebound, discovered that there were aspects of their homes that ‘needed’ a makeover. There were many struggles during those two years due to supply chain issues, lack of supplies, lack of inventory and other issues. However, that too passed and now we are dealing with tariff issues, higher prices and a lack of confidence in the market. While obstacles, we tend to bounce back as the public adapts to the ongoing changes.

As you know, we’re big fans of Living Design Interiors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Living Design Interiors is a small woman owned business. We only operate in Southern California and work with our clients on anything aspect of the interior of their homes. This includes kitchen and bath remodels, window treatments, flooring selections, paint consultation, art placement, furniture selection and lighting.

As an Aging-in-Place Specialist, I am known for accessible and timeless designs. I believe that each design needs to suit the user (homeowner) and need not be cloned to images found in a magazine. Designs need to be practical, and I work hard to promote sustainable and reusable products and materials.

I am deeply committed to Universal Design – the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, no matter their age, or level of mobility. We try to always ensure that design features blend seamlessly into the overall home design and the personalities of the home’s occupants.

I am proud to have been published and featured in a number of publications and to also have won numerous Design Awards for a variety of projects.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I love what I do! I learn something every day – there is always a new product or material. Our industry is constantly changing and evolving and I love being a part of that.

I listen to my clients – I believe I help solve their problems by focusing on their pain points and addressing the issues. I believe in being direct and to the point – many clients have expressed that I honestly address what works and what does not!.

I believe in solving the issues presented to me and will consult with the entire family to ensure everyone’s concerns are addressed. We work hard to ensure each project delivers results and finish within the budget.

I collaborate with architects, contractors and installers to ensure deliverables are met in a timely fashion.
