Exploring Life & Business with Bertha Ortiz Cazaubon of The BOCA Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bertha Ortiz Cazaubon.

Hi Bertha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve been fascinated with design since I was a little girl. I remember trying to plan out my bedroom, drawing my first-floor plan without realizing it. Growing up, my mom and grandma would always ask for my advice on furniture and décor; I had an eye for detail from a young age. After graduating from Architecture, I got some real-life experience through firms, where I learned skills I will forever be thankful for.

I started getting clients organically through word of mouth and networking. My first project was residential from ground up; I designed all architectural and interior aspects. In this project, I found the love for custom-made furniture. Since then, I have immersed myself into the furniture world, bringing projects to life that stand out. Decided to start my studio after a couple projects; they deserved to be documented.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Architecture is about finding solutions to ideas, how can something come to life. I wouldn’t call it a struggle nor a smooth road. It’s just a matter of being proactive with your projects, keeping them all afloat, all while keeping your clients happy. Finding solutions in the art you are making, enjoying every step of the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We’re a multifaceted design firm; we do architecture, interiors, furniture, and graphic design. Our portfolio includes residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. We have done remodels, new construction, furnishings, custom furniture, and branding.

It’s important to become great listeners understand your client’s needs and vision. Then we design timeless and beautiful spaces to elevate your daily experience.

What makes you happy?
Of course, the obvious… my puppy, friends, and family. Nature helps me feel grounded. I love to take inspiration in all the colors, shapes, and textures this city provides!
