Hi Brandee, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Being the youngest of four, I faced harsh teasing and weight shaming, even from my father, who nicknamed me Ms. Piggy. At just 10 years old, I was put on my first of many diets, sparking a battle with eating disorders and depression that led to two suicide attempts. However, at 16, with my grandmother’s support, I began to embrace my beauty and self-worth. Undeterred by life’s challenges, I worked full-time while pursuing my college education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and becoming a mother at 21.
My decision to achieve greatness was evident early on, leading me to make an impactful statement in the fashion industry. In 2015, I became the Executive Editor of Manik Magazine and founded NWFW+, the first New York Fashion Week event dedicated to plus-size women. My vision didn’t stop there. I launched Luxe Kurves Magazine, the first luxury lifestyle magazine for curvy women of color, featuring celebrities like Rick Ross, Torrei Hart, and stars from Tyler Perry’s hit show “Sistas.”
In 2018, I expanded my influence on television with “The Brandee J Show” on YouTube, showcasing my mission to inspire others to be authentic and pursue their dreams. I was fortunate to grace numerous red carpets, including the BET Awards and New York Fashion Week, but I knew my purpose extended beyond these events.
In 2021, I paused my ventures to rebuild and elevate my life, leading to the creation of my empowering lifestyle brand, “Brandee J Lifestyle,” in 2024. “Brandee J Lifestyle” is a multifaceted media brand dedicated to helping individuals live life on their terms through travel, healthy relationships, motivation, business insights, and more. My new brand focuses on elevating lives through healed perspectives, shared on my website, YouTube channel, and social media show “What the Hell!”, where I share my journey and those of my guests.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth ride but I’ve used every obstacle as a way to become stronger and better. From being a survivor of domestic violence to losing my father, overcoming and rebuilding my life twice from two divorces to burying my abuser in 2021 from COVID to dealing with my own mental health issues. I’ve taken every obstacle to become stronger and healthier.

In everything I have accomplished in my life and business it has not been luck but my faith and believing in GOD. He has guided me and helped me overcome so much.
