Hi Bridget, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After getting my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography, doing everything from products to portraits to pet photos, I fell into architectural and other corporate photography for businesses. During the 2020 Covid shutdown, I was laid off and having trouble finding new clients since face-to-face meetings were not able to happen. On and off for years, I had been doing goofy throwback portraits for friends out of my house for their holiday cards and other occasions. I decided to take a leap and start an official business doing this style of photography, which became an entity and personality of its own called Electric Eye.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I did not have many challenges with this business since I took a lot of precautions from the beginning. I subleased my shared studio space with a month-to-month lease, I took Covid precautions seriously, and I treated it as a side job even though I was making half of my income from Electric Eye.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Electric Eye is a retro-inspired photography business in San Diego and soon to be the World’s one and only metal retro-photo van. Electric Eye specializes in retro portraits in the style of glamour shots, soft focus ’80s, and ’90s mall photography, green screen multiple-composite images with floating heads in space, and more.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Only to keep things as safe as possible. Thankfully myself and my clients have never had a Covid issue that involved the studio or my photography events.
Pricing:
- BASIC Shoot: $15 per pose (which includes a digital copy and one print) or 5 for $60.
- EXTRA Shoot: $100 for one digital image composed of multiple poses photoshopped together, shot on green screen.
- $5 for an extra print or $6.66 for two photo keychains
